Its all that Zwifting that Whorty does that has helped him get his HR up  That and he is getting fitter. Carl, like AAAC says always a good idea to keep an eye on HR going down steadily following an all out effort even at your youthful age.
Mine is 10-15bpm more from zwifting than it ever was on bkool recently peaking at 187 on a Zwift training plan.. I think its because i tend to do longer fast paced endurance rides than shorter races. And that may be one of reasons why Carl has improved so much too? Of course, it could equally happen on the right TR training plan.

Mid october:
your peak 5 second heart rate was 181 BPM

- your peak 10 second heart rate was 181 BPM

- your peak 1 minute heart rate was 176 BPM

- your peak 5 minute heart rate was 170 BPM

- your peak 10 minute heart rate was 169 BPM

- your peak 20 minute heart rate was 166 BPM

- your peak 60 minute heart rate was 150 BPM
TBH I didn't realise my HR had gone above 180 yesterday until @Aleman said but I did do a follow up ride and my HR was only at 145 ish during that 15 mins so I think all good. Didn't realise I'd hit over 180 in Zwift either (I assume those numbers you quoted are from Zwift?) .... must have been a hard session for me :okay:

Agreed that I like Zwift for the longer rides and this helps get stamina, and I use BKool for the 30-60 min all out blasts something that doesn't feel right for some reason on Zwift

Looks like your relative youth and training is now paying off Carl. Today I looked at our last nights ride graphs for a comparison and to try and see why you were so much quicker. As expected, you were just making much more power than me everywhere, but especially at the end. You even had a massive power spike where you unleashed what remained of your energy whereas I had nothing left to give. Hopefully your ghost will be available (but that's doubtful) for a better go at you on Saturday. Last night I said "never again", but as usual my memory of pain is very short. I think you've become my new target.

Carl, those are my figures. If you sign up to the free version of today’s plan you will get the same weekly email with that and other details.
@BILL S TBH biggest struggle for me moving to Zwift was the longer rides and the stamina needed to keep going. Fine if you do a lot of IRL rides but if you just race in bkool the you rarely ride more than an hour. And often less than that. Great in lots of ways as we all know but that training/racing has its limitations. I do regular fast paced group rides in Zwift, rides I used to struggle to finish, but can now hold on for longer. Carl has I think through longer Zwift rides clearly acquired stamina as well as power.

Adam hello mate! Great to hear from you. I can’t do the DD next year. I decided not to take up your advice regarding breaking up a young couple, so as to scupper their wedding and free up that weekend for me to cycle. Brilliant as it was I just can’t do it mate...

A few of us have signed up to a tour of Cambridge ride next summer which you’re more than welcome to join of course. We’re also tentatively talking about a more social ride, hopefully including Randy, at some point around May or June(?). We have another thread for planned meet ups and general talking of nonsense!

Hi guys! Just out of curiosity I made a few enquiries this afternoon, and it appears that they are running the Double Devil next year, despite some earlier reservations.

Any takers? I could be persuaded if there is a general interest. Especially after my puke inducing return to the turbo the other night.

Who are you?!? Oh, snickers guy!:okay: ^_^

Good to hear from you Adam :hugs:

I’d better see how my comeback progresses before I commit to anything, I can only imagine it’s going to be a pig to achieve any sort of form, from my 12-18 month cycling hibernation.

Ah, I see. Might sign up to that then :okay:

You're right, Zwift is easy to just sit on the bike and the time flies by. Instead of the 30-60 mins race in BKool you can easily burn away 90+ mins on Zwift and that does help to get miles in the legs. Not happy about the 60% price hike though on Zwift  They may have to rethink that when they suddenly see their new members numbers shrinking. No way can they justify £13 per month with their current offering when their competition is much cheaper. I think it's going to be a 'watch this space'!
