Once upon a time I took photos of bands, live, promo, stock etc.. anyways, similar to you I’ve seen thousands of bands n photod them.

I found myself down Surrey way and in the presence of The Quo who were headlining a festival. The usual rules for press/photographers was 3 and out ie three songs and then you had to leave the pit. After that, most of ‘us’ made our way around the fringes to get a few more shots. I was one of the few lucky ones who was given AAA and with band management agreement, I was permited to ‘work’ the stage - on stage with the act.

I was given such access with The Quo however, after the three songs in the pit, I decided to go back to my tent and have a smoke. I was however in the minority. Just not for me,

No need for photographers anymore due to 15mg iPhones.. good days though.. :becool:
Sounds like you've had a really interesting life Jim. Would be good sometime to grab a beer or two with you and hear some of your stories :okay: Maybe one day you'll make a CC ride, or I'll make it up there to the dark frozen depths and wilderness of Scotland :cold:

It would be perfect @Whorty and a pleasure. I will definitely get down sarf and cycle in the sun with you boys one day, summer cycling up here is fantastic.

I briefly worked on a traveling fair, beat the world number 4 in the world at snooker (Tony Knowles). Made Princess Diana a pair of shoes and led the security for AAA Bollywood stars at IIFA Awards. .. and so much more... All true.

LIVING THE DREAM
Right @BILL S I've published the first League of 15 stages http://www.bkool.com/classification/showIndividualLeagueClassification/2756 I hope it works. Its set to start in a couple of days time for the year. if it works OK, I'll start another Group/League for the next 15 stages and finally one more Group/League for the last 15 stages to Jo'G. The stages are a little iggledy piggledy and out of sync for some reason? Does it look OK to you?

If others join, where does all that stuff get managed?

Thanks Bill

Jim

One of the first live gigs I went to in Germany was Santana.
A mini bus load of us drove down/across from Detmold to Dortmund (on a Sunday I seem to remember).
On the way there all I could think was 'would actually Santana be any good watch live'.
I should not have doubted their talent, it was a fantastic gig.

I was racking my brains the other night to remember another surprise gig I went to and it came to me today, Manfred Man (can't remember if they were using Earth Band then) but they were excellent.
My worst was Dire Straits, they were dire-bolical.
Bowie in 82/83 was fantastic (Serious Moonlight Tour)

Managed to get back stage with Toyah Willcox in Herford because security thought we were roadies as we were wearing "CREW" tea shirts.
A few weeks later we saw the Cure at the same venue and they must have played an extra hour of encores (or zugabe as the Deutch say).

Infact 'the Scala' Herford was one of my favourite venues. It was a converted Cinema so not too big (but you got a good view) and as a result no Mega Bands played there but with Punk/New Wave growing in popularity in Germany (4 years behind the UK) it was the place where we watch the UK Subs, Toyah, the Cure and Psychedelic Furs to name a few.

Best big venue for me was the Westfallenhalle in Dortmund.
https://www.eventtravel.com/westfalenhalle-dortmund
It is a circular auditorium (and veldrome!) with standing space in the middle which could be accessed from many entries from the corridor full of bars, eateries and toilets so access and going to and fro for 'refreshments' was never an issue.

Lived in Yobsville for 31 years now and I have never be to Glastonbury Festival.

Where do we stay in Bucknell? Plus I'm the only yellow hat. So wait up.

Apart from a 6 month stint as a safari guide in south Africa, I've pretty much been sitting at a desk for 30 years! I need to get out more.
