I already tried tubulars on BKool - didn't work out to well but I guess there could be difference in tubular tires as well .

Don't worry Andy - whilst I love mountain biking I'm a complete wuss when it comes to anything vaguely technical or dangerous! @Monte on the other hand does have a bit of a habit of snapping mtb frames or major bones so is clearly a bit more adventurous.....

I guess we could even organise separate MTB and roadie groups that finish at the same place (pub obviously ) if enough people were interested. Will have a think, and we should probably move this conversation to the meet up/events thread...
