People are too quick to refer to the US open as being a freak result when she did have a run to the last 16 in Wimbledon a few weeks beforehand. If the draw had opened up in the same way as it did in Flushing Meadows who knows what might have happened.

Much that has happened since is due to injury, although in the period since Boulter has had better ranking.

You must surely mean 2nd time? albeit i refer you to post #31

What was the first time (note my use of 'in nearly 5 years' i.e. since the US Open win)? Yes, she's had a lot of injuries but that's sort of the point - she gets loads of media attention despite rarely completing a tournament and often dropping out just in advance.

Her playing style is like the tennis version of 'sending it' so it's disappointing but not surprising that she's ended up in this state. Hopefully she can regroup and rebuild stronger.

Is she taking coverage away from the others?

I don't think she is. Serena coming out of retirement has been a bigger story.

In any case, Britain's number one dropping out is disappointing and newsworthy.

Fark me we have a Brit into the quarters

Well done Arthur Fery.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/videos/cj4gg725x0yo

he plays Cobolli, 9th seed but a clay court specialist who was so confident of his chances that he was scratching around for more accommodation for this week as he hadnt booked any...

And Fery has beaten him earlier this year already apparently.

Good match yesterday, did seem like Dimitrov kind of folded/crumbled towards the end though.
Fery deserved the win for sure, he played some superb shots.
