Testing puncture repairs

So, a pile of tubes "used" in the dozen of so commutes I've done

Roughed area, wiped, applied glue and waited a minute or two, applied patch and pressed in place for a minute or two.

So now have four tubes patched, two need new cores:

How do you test them to be worthy of going on the next ride?

I'd admire your dedication to the puncture repair - mine go straight into the bin as I can't be bothered faffing about with them. I guess if you over-inflate them and leave overnight - if they stay up they'll be ok but you can never 'guarantee' a repair

You cant really test them unless you put them on a wheel with a tyre as you cant get any real sort of pressure in just a tube.

I test my repairs, by putting them up to full pressure, then crossing my fingers. So far, I've not been disappointed. However, Conti tubes with 2 piece valves are a complete nightmare, I won't buy them unless I have to. I much prefer Spesh 1 piece valved numbers.

I was thinking of putting them in a spare tyre...would that work?

My patches have sort of feather edges to them, those look more industrial

If its on a wheel, yes.

Either my technique is amazing, I am lucky or patches don't fail, because I have never had a problem with a patched tube apart from not getting the culprit out of a tyre.

Water is only useful for finding a puncture. Useless for telling you if the repair will hold at 100psi.

Don't inflate they repaired tube outside of a tyre/wheel. It will pull the tube away from the patch.

Yep, put it in a tyre on the wheel, then wang it up to full pressure.

I can't really test them to pressure but I pump up tubes till there hard and leave them overnight. If there still hard in the morning at worst they'll be fine for a 'get me home' spare.

You mean without a wheel , You can put some air in them but you are not really testing them unless they are in a wheel .
