The 2026 Half Century (50km or 50 mile) a month challenge chatzone

Had hoped to get another point in on Saturday, but as I reached the halfway point of my ride (and the half I'd done was the tougher half - lots of climbing and into the wind) I got a phone call from home telling me to head back urgently as there was a family emergency. Luckily with a tailwind the direct route back took me less than 40 minutes compared to the 80 it took me to get to that point, but there was no chance of getting out again to finish off the missing seven miles unfortunately.

So I couldn't get out on Saturday, about the only free day I would have had in Jan so far where the weather hasn't been atrocious.

If @ColinJ's forum ride doesn't happen on Saturday I'll have to wrap up and force myself out, maybe go visit my mum, usually a 29 mile round trip but take more a roundabout route. Either that or sack the challenge off again for another year.

I did the right thing postponing on Saturday because I am still not 100%, but it had some of the best weather here recently so that was a pity!

I have been doing some turbo sessions but only a maximum of 1.5 hours easy, or about 75 minutes making more effort, and they were about as much as I felt ready for.

I hope that I get back to normal this week and if I do I might try to squeeze a 50 in during the week in case the Saturday ride gets put back again.

Fingers crossed for that Saturday ride. We should have a better idea of the weather prospects by Wednesday or Thursday.
