My next ride target is 49.99 miles

Rounding-up?

I had a late breakfast on Thursday morning (blame thunderstorms in Orlando). I headed out on the bike late morning with a cheese sandwich, half a brownie and a less than full bidon of water. The plan was to do at least 36km.

Flew through Ploërmel and down to the canal. So an HMCAM ride was on. Very windy in the Oust valley but I pushed on over the south side and down into the Claie valley. New plan emerged – do an outward leg of 46km so a total of 92km was on: another Lunacy Distance ride and I’d be a bit closer to Lifetime E Imperial 57 miles.

Just approaching the D774 junction SE of Pleucadeuc and .. oh, bugger, they’ve closed the V3 Voie Verte for 3 weeks. Meant a very steep detour up through Brantonnais – had to push the bike up the worst of it. Carried on to le Chenil (47km) then back north to la Tayée via St-Barthélémy and Chaumusset. Realised I was on for a 95/96km total so did some extra loops and gentle “double-backs” and got back to the van with 101km on the clock.

If I’d started a bit earlier – with more food and water – 120km would have been easily achieved. Oh, well.

Anyway – I rounded up a 36km ride to 101kms. Easy if you put your mind to it…

Doubled my normal miles today - in upping mileage / Training for the Dunwich Dynamo.

Hugged my favourite Coastline straight out and back - to a Quaint North Norfolk Holidaymaker Heaven destination; called Sea Palling. Felt ok doing it too 👍

I even added a loop of St Peters to ensure I would finish just over 45miles instead of just under.
🤔😤☹️

A rare evening ride for me. I am terribly unfit. I went for a circuit I used to do often for a 70k ride, and the last 20k were an absolute slog. Glad I did it anyway, I even added a loop of St Peters to ensure I would finish just over 45miles instead of just under.

I set out to do 50 miles yesterday. Arrived home to see 57’ish on Strava via my phone. I then had to do a **painful further 5 mile loop to get to 62m / 100k.

TBH - absolutely through a personal desire to do a first Metric Century for 35+ years and being so close to that number. Yea ok - the wrath I’d of got here may have helped too 🤣

But yea. There’s always ‘the next milestone’ hey……🙄

Sunday Social. And 34’odd miles to bounce the total up to 100 miles for the weekend 😁

Pleasant ride. A slightly different loop to and around Beccles at the furthest point. And most importantly - the body is feeling good despite being stretched to points it’s not been before.

Interestingly - I’m now at 18 points. The same as I managed in the whole of 2025 😃

I did consider trying for the 50 miles, but my legs were starting to cramp and I had run out of carbs and my glucose levels were dropping. For once I wasn't pulling your leg.

Not easy sometimes is it ! Physically - and mentally; if you’re not prepared for the additional distance required to hit a certain ChalIenge.

I set out to do 50m yesterday. Ended up adding 12 to that. The (Around Town loop of shame 🤣) last 5 miles felt cumatively as tough as the previous 30. I’d well and truly had enough by then. And like you was out of drink, food, energy and intent !

Infact if you’d have told me there’s 10 bonus points for another 5 mile loop I’d have afforded you the opportunity to go mate with yourself 😂

The old men’s tour of the Low Countries ends today with the train from York to Manchester.
The ride from Rotterdam to Europoort was horrific. A full headwind, a missing ferry boat and a re route that had us going around in circles meant we checked in at the P&O terminal with only 30 minutes to spare. The last 16 Kms into the wind took almost 2 hours. A well deserved meal on board and almost 9 hours of sleep had us in Hull with light winds. clear bright skies, a nice route into Pocklington then shocking surfaces into York. Tour complete with 560 Kms, one lost jacket😠 and two problematic tubeless set ups ( not mine)
