Anyone know how @steverob is getting on with his LEJOG?

There were a flurry of posts which ended with "I'm feeling poorly" (or words to that effect) and that was a few days ago (30th June). Since then I've not seen anything - but it's possible I've missed a post.

Hopefully it's just that he's not had a chance to update us.
Yeah, it's been a bit hectic in the evenings, especially on some days where we don't arrive at the hotel until later. Typical plan is shower, change, then down to the restaurant to eat, then back up to room to charge all the gadgets (and find you don't have enough plug sockets!) and sometimes by then it's past 10 o'clock - as it is today - and you end up flopping in to bed knowing you've got to be up at 7am for breakfast and getting your luggage down to the van.

So my plan has been to save updates on here and other websites for ends of weeks / months etc. The exception is Strava of course cause I crave those Kudoses!

By way of a change of scenery I rode to Lancaster by the Bay Cycle Way. Low cloud and mizzle to Silverdale then the strengthening wind brought a little brightnes, however the wind was into my face (as usual). Refuge taken in the Stone Jetty Café in Morecambe for shelter and a very fine egg and bacon roll before the easy ride to Lancaster for the ridiculously overcrowded train back to Grange. July done.

The cunning plan of a ride across the West Pennine Moors was abandoned very early this morning in favour of a much less hilly ride. Very wise I think as I have no team car dispensing bidons and ice following me. As it was I was still sweating like a lawn sprinkler with only 300+ metres of upness over 55 Kms. :sun::sun::sun::sun:

Gorgeous ride today. And in taking a Photo at 28 miles I managed to somehow; Stop: and post my ride 🤣 *10+ miles from home 🙄 I then looked at the time on my phone a few miles further on; and luckily noticed !!

And hence started ‘another ride’ per-se at that point. Although the reality is it’s all one and the same ride. So I’ve logged at 37.6 miles actual / proveable for purposes here. But now at 40 miles on my Strava; for my personal yearly tally purposes.

A leisurely one today. Even stopped for ‘Nutrition’ 🙄

**And bike felt absolutely superb today after some ‘rider positioning mods’ yesterday and saving a couple of KG nearly in weight with new wheels, tyres, lightweight tubes, discs, Ti bolts and other bits. Not to mention removing mudguards and some other clutter !

I know today was a slower ride to pace myself to my buddy: but I literally feel like I’ve not been out. With no tingling in my right hand (Hopefully as a result of a shorter and taller stem, better posture and an effort to use my core muscles for support). Coupled with my increased saddle height - it seems to have also alleviated alot of the tightness in my right knee. Genuinely really excited for the changes 👍

So I have updated a few other threads on here with my travails, but thought I should add it here as well for completions sake - I wasn't able to complete my LEJOG ride due to falling ill at the start of the second week. Struggled on for a few days afterwards, but it ended up being too much and I had to retire as we reached Inverness.

For the record, I managed 830 miles on the bike across 12 days, plus a further 39 miles in the support van on the two days where I rode about 80% of the distance of the rest of the group (while I was at my poorest health). Ended up only missing out on the last 148 miles of the route, plus another 12 if I'd have gone ahead with my original plan to do Dunnet and Duncansby Heads as well on the final day.

Will get my bike back this weekend with any luck and we'll see if I'm fit enough to actually resume riding!

Sorry you were ill...after the bulk of it done as well☹️. Will you pick up where you left off or do you have to start again?

70 odd miles a day for 12 days is an awesome achievement in my book...well done

I’ve decided that I won’t do the whole thing again, but maybe in a few years time I might re-do the Scottish bit, say Glasgow to JOG but do it under my own steam rather than a group holiday (which also would mean I could pick my own route).

Yes, this won’t count as a proper end to end, but at least I can say I’ve been right across the country in stages this way.
