That may be a fair cop. but I'm not sure it is a level playing field/two way street. are we obliged to play fair in here during 'robust' discussion on which folk disagree strongly? after all if folk (not you) dole out insults and then claim special privilege due to their circumstances, well, we've all got a story...
Im the first to put a point that I believe. But playing unfair or unpleasant doesnt add to any debate, in fact as soon as name calling or word twisting enters the fray, the whole topic goes down hill rapidly.

I dunno why you guys are getting so arsey, if you think Petrol's pricey now, hang around a while. Word on the street is that it's only gonna get worst, so start to plan heavy fuel use out of your life sooner rather than later.
Im open to suggestions on how to do this. If petrol cost doubles, Im working to run a car. So working might not be an option, unless something turns up in commuting distance?

You are quite correct, and I for one am taking steps to lower my fuel consumption. Not through any social conscience I might add, but purely financial reasons. However that does not mean that it is right to tax it to death. As oil gets even more expensive, so will the price of petrol without the Chancellor adding to it. It just means people have to save money in other areas, because SOME folk cannot simply give up their cars. At least not until there is a viable alternative.

so who, in the context of a debate like this, gets to define unpleasant or unfair. you? me? someone who flounces? admin? some of the statements made about me and my posts in this thread, well, frankly, i might regard them as unfair or unpleasant but so what? life's like that.

I made my comment as even I felt annoyed at the way you were overdoing it. As Im in the opposite position to you, where I dont have a choice. But havent been whinging about the price increases, just dissapointed and dreading it.

which (not very) neatly side steps the question.

you have opinions. i have opinions. your opinions are deeply held. so are mine. i've my life story, you've yours, others have theirs, some have 'needs' others say these are 'wants' so how about we forget about 'pratt' and 'smug' and discuss where we are at?

So eminently cycleable then
Not really, I start as early as six in the morning, and normally dont finish till half seven. taking travel time then wash and change to go, Id have to be up at four and near enough straight out the door. Then coming home at nine or later as I finish at quarter to eight on some shifts, wouldnt be the most practical commute. Also the route by car is mainly motorway, I dont know what it is the other way for cycling, but will be a few more miles . So could be quite a bit longer.
