Forgot to post here! On St Patrick’s day I decided to mark the occasion with some Guinness. In the form of a cake.

By the way, it didn’t sink in the middle (well not as much as it appears here), that’s a consequence of the quite slack cream cheese icing being dragged down when cut.

Quite a dense cake and not over-sweet. It used dark brown muscovado sugar, dark chocolate and cocoa (amongst other things). The generous ‘head’ gives a nice sweet boost.

Did you use 'Guinness' or other readily available stouts in the ingredients?
I once baked a fruit cake with Guinness it wasn't overly succesfull ,I had used wholemeal flour, because that why it required
