Another option that I'd try is to replicate the stewmac tool with an old oversized allen key... give it a taper on a grinding thing if you've got one.

Next job is to make a list of parts. I think most of the screws will need replacing due to corrosion, might end up replacing some trem parts as well, the saddle screws anyway are cheap enough. Trem cavity cover is cracked but that's easy enough to replace. Will probably have to wait until after Christmas but at least now I know it's worth doing. I could sort the fingerboard and frets out but I'll probably wait till I've got the parts so I can install the truss rod nut and get it nice and level to work on.

Anyway, I'm gonna go and play the Palm Bay for a bit and try to talk myself out of buying the tube amp someone's just put on the local facebook page...

go for stainless steel screws

No point scrimping on a few pence worth of screws. Again, it's not a high end guitar and when I show you the finish you'll probably shake your head in disbelief, but I'm gonna make it the best it can be.

It does play nicely, and it's got Kent Armstrong powerblades (I think, will have to confirm the exact model) which give you a real smack in the face.

Just found this thread.
Anyone on here playing a double bass? I play in an orchestra and concert band. Being able to read music (someone mentioned not getting to grips with the bass clef on one of the first few pages) is an absolute must.

I dont have a double bass, but I can play DB and EUB.

I can read music as was forced into piano lessons as a kid. However, ive spent years struggling to recalibrate to the bass clef and im good enough now to figure out parts with it for the purposes of learninga new tune but couldn't sight-play for toffee.

I've not even bothered trying to read music for mandolin and just play by ear.
