I'm leaning towards Option 2, as I have doubts over my laptops 'muscle' for the DAW of things (dual core Celeron 1.8Ghz / 12 gb RAM), even if I run a stripped-out/pared back version of Reaper.
I'd advice going for an interface, and upgrading your laptop. You'd probably get some performance out of your current laptop for now, recording at 24bit 44.1. If there any issues, just record at 16bit 44.1 for now.
Are you planning to record vocals, and/or plug in an electric guitar directly?
I expect the fact that it's missing the back so it's now effectively open cab will more than make up for any nuances in the way it's been tuned to a specific driver.
