They cant be that trendy or affluent or they wouldnt be in Wetherspoons!

Exactly..

Or it may also be the case that they're not quite such massive snobs .

So that, when one of their mates suggest heading down to spoons beer garden on a sunny Sunday afternoon, for an all you can eat blow out .

They don't dissapear up their own superior arrisses,

I don't know, I'll ask next time I see him.

Apparently there is a thing going about called fashion. As it passed me by about 40 years ago I just drink in the "old man's pubs"

I don't feel out of place there and the beer is usually more advantageously priced.

Ok, let me rephrase, maybe trendy was not quite the right word?

I want first class, tasty, specialist beer from niche brewers, but it would be really great if the price could be brought down to compete with the mass market bulk producers. How about a nice subsidy from the tax payer, because we all know that the money would otherwise only be wasted on hospitals or police or something else equally silly!

I'm not really comfortable with the fact that the budget has given tax relief on what, let's face it, is a luxury item when that money could have been used much more effectively elsewhere in the economy.

But hey, it makes great headlines and I'm sure it will be popular with the vocal recipients.....

I'd like first-class, tasty beer (specialist or not), and I'd like those who produce it not to have to struggle to do so against multinational megacorps subsidised by a corporate welfare state churning out identikit fizzy yellow pish in an economy almost wholly rigged in their favour.

I go to spoons for the often excellent well served and ever changing beers, very often with a bike. And believe it or not I like the very inclusive diverse atmosphere and clientele you get in many. If you want to keep drinking the same old stuff from your bathtub day in and out do feel free of course drago.

I think there are an awful lot of things that could be accused of being a massive waste of taxpayers money, well before what is in reality a tiny amount that might go towards supporting our craft brewers.

Who in turn support other small businesses, which in turn lends vibrancy, greater prosperity and character to our town centres, and independents in the hospitality industry.

An industry which employs many people, and contributes back into the tax take..

Of course I'd be breaking forum rules if i mentioned ..... [Mod Deleted to safeguard the poster. :okay:]

So I won't do that 👍🏼 Mod Note: You did but now haven't. Don't go there. Just don't. :stop:

Don't get me started on ordering a 'pint' of craft beer to then be told it's a schooner. ³/4 pint for £5.

I like first class tasty beer.

So I make my own at 20p a pint. I now have 80 pints of Golden Shower lager, and 120 pints of Scruttocks Olde Shagnasty bitter mellowing. So thats Christmas morning taken care of.

still only two.

Still, pop your address over (never been too sure where "poshshire" is) and I'll be happy to pop round to sample.

How strong is it?

I didn't think homebrew was that cheap- must admit I always associate it with a somewhat nerdy chemistry teacher of mine - and always had the idea that it was kinda drinkable but not too much to write home about.

Served with a bike? Are the inmates throwing it back at you again? ;)

Poshshire is ironic. It's the shire that The Posh were in until the 1960s.

I think small brewers should be taxed no worse than the majors. They are far more likely to be delivered by bike either directly or by firms like BeerHatch.

when I was much, much younger, newly married, and skint, we used to organise “home brew parties”, with some of our neighbours in similar circumstances. Only rule was home brew only, plus, simple home made food (to keep cost down).

because the strength of the home brew could never be predicted, from one party to the next, there were some delightful drinking session!, and, some mighty hangovers! ;)

The Golden Shower is 5.3%, the Shagnasty a perfect 4.8%. Of course, secondary fermentation continues in the bottle so by the time I've worked my way down to the last bottle it could be considered a barley wine.

What is this well observed good sense? Have I fallen into a parallel universe where more and more I find myself nodding my head in sage agreement at the Claud's utterances?
