The van's packed. Well mostly. All the seats are out (flippin heavy), bed is folded out, bike mount fitted to the seat rails, and most of the shizzle is now under the bed out of sight. Will need a little better packing for Glasgow at the end of our trip so I can hide the bike as it will be in the fork mount, behind the front seats, so will need all wheels off and chucking under the bed out of sight.

All packed first this morning before the rain hit. It's tipping down now.

Arrived home safely. Traffic was torrid. Lots of VW campers on the road today so lots of waving. 43 point something MPG consumption across this tank.

Got about 38 mpg but I was doing the speed limit and it's all uphill to Scotland. Easy drive to Loch Lomond

Don't ask about the blimmin Dolphin. MrsF won it in a raffle for her swimming group, so it's come on holiday.

DId a nice ride up and down Loch Lomond cycle track from Luss to Tarbet. Of the 4 laybys I passed all were full of campers. Most fine, no outward sign they were camped, maybe a chair at the side of the Loch, but the group with jet skis had made an encampment and had their cookers/BBQ on the bike path. I just rode straight through the encampment. Crap strewn everywhere and they had even had a fire on the tarmac layby (not off the ground). People like that give everyone a bad name. Show some respect to the locals.

Great trucks the old 508D - as long as you had access to free diesel! Back in my motorcycle racing days a mate had one converted to a Motorhome it was huge inside, I was jealous as I had a 207D van with a Z-bed in it, we did drive mine flat out at 55mph nonestop apart from fuel stops (and a ferry) with 4 bikes in the back 2 of us sat in the front, 2 in the back sitting on camping chairs from Gloucestershire to Germany. That era (1980s) of Merc van were indestructible mine was 10 years old, had huge mileage but we drove it all over Europe for motorbike events with no worries.
