... was first broadcast on Radio 4 on March 8th, 1978. Making today officially H2G2's 42nd birthday.

As the UK is currently undergoing covid-19 hysteria and panic buying, it makes me think that the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything (to which the answer is "42") is "How many years after this is broadcast will 'Don't Panic!' written in large, friendly lettering, be both incredibly necessary and almost entirely unheeded?"

I suspect that Covid-19 was first contracted from an unexpectedly dirty telephone. :okay:

I remember listening to that first broadcast, on the transistor radio I'd received the previous Christmas. It blew my ten-year-old mind.

And thank you for stating that 42 is The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything and not 'the meaning of life' as folks assert with annoying regularity!

Did I ever tell you how I gave Douglas Adams the name of (at least) one of his characters?

It is always time for Vogon poetry. I'll look some out. I think I left it at the bottom of a locked filing cabinet in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "beware the leopard"

Would that disused lavatory be in the basement where the planning documents (for the bypass) are located?
