A bit of a dark picture, but the ridge of Bollihope Common in the distance, pictured from the north fire-road loop in Hamsterley forest from a gravel bike adventure a couple of weeks ago. The track just to the left of centre goes up and over (an absolutely monster climb), then heads back south, eventually to Blackling Hole. The one centre right heads up over Sharnberry Flat, past an old quarry and meets the B6278 road about a mile south of Bollihope summit.
The one I'm on there has a long dead-end branching off a bit further up, to a magical little green 'cul-de-sac' right on the northern edge of the forest, where the moor starts. Perfect for a pork pie stop and one of those places where you start to wonder 'when was the last time anyone else was up here?'
Looking north over the moor to Bollihope.
