Well, grand daughter (18) has just brought an 11 plate Citroën C1, 53k miles for £2400.
Given today's prices , probably not bad but think back pre pandemic, you'd get a
12 year old car for almost peanuts comparatively.
Really clean and nice condition.Apparently drives well, has a bit of a dodgy hazard light switch.

She just failed her first test, was doing really well then clipped a kerb right near the end, but there you go, so this has really got her excited, she is beaming with the car. And to think we took her to see a Ka, same age and it was really quite rough.
Oh to be 18 again, brought her first car, just booked a week break in Portugal with her boyfriend, life steams ahead at that age.

If the hazard light switch looks 'cracked', they all do it and it doesn't affect use. Same on the Aygo and Pug. Thats a good price TBH.

Little Aygo's front bumper has started to lose the clear coat. It's an issue on all the cars at about this age 12-14 years old. Just starts bubbling on the bumper.

Obtained two tins of colour matched paint from a paint mixers on ebay. Removed the bumper and sanded down. Decided not to remove the trims as they were too well clipped in, so masked off where possible.

It's not a perfect job, but looks a damn site better than pealed paint and a few scratches and chips which are gone. Well chuffed that the colour match is spot on, as are the metalic flakes.

Collected this on Wednesday, I’ve now retired from my full time job, so gone from 18000 business miles a year to virtually zero, so we’ve kept my wife’s 2015 Golf GTD as our main car, sold my 2017 BMW 330d touring and replaced it with yet another Mini (our fourth)

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
SWMBO's Honda Jazz has survived until now, but the radiator has gone and our decision is that a repair is uneconomical since the clutch will also need doing at some point fairly soon. So, it's gone onto eBay.

We've been looking at a replacement and back in March I asked about Vauxhall Meriva's. SWMBO had a go in one and it was far too big for her.

So ... we're on the hunt for a replacement. Why this thread? Well ... SWMBO's been getting friendly with the speed camera man. Or at least that's what I think since he's been sending her personalised letters. I'm not too sure what's in them - - but the outcome means any replacement has got to be a very low insurance group (3 or less!).

Today we went to look at a Fiat Panda whilst in Newcastle and, if I'd made a special journey, I would have been annoyed. Having been stated as 'no accident damage' the multi-coloured bumper and mis-aligned bonnet told a different story. Oh, and the interior was xx( . All for £5k on a 9 year-old car.

We're looking for something very low insurance, preferably 5 doors, small but with a big boot. Hence a Panda. Wait and see ...

Nissan note?
Pug partner tepee?

Nice thoughts and we've got a Partner Tepee already which son no. 2 drives. But ... the Tepee's too big. And a Note is too high an insurance group.

We have to go smaller ... and lower insurance. I suggested a Nissan S Cargo, but that was rebuffed.

I did a search on Autotrader, hatchback, big boot, group 3. Lots of Volkswagon Polo, Skoda Fabia, Dacia Sandero, a Renault Clio popped up (didn't know they still made them).

But also a handful of Ford Fiestas appeared but none below £5k, I do like a small Ford though.

Small five doors and a decent boot has to be a Polo or Fabia. CityGo or Ups are too small in the boot.

Used, decent small cars are fetching silly money currently. Even a 10 year old Up is £5k for a good one.

Our Aygo went to the scrap heaven last month. The cat flange fell to bits after four years and likely needed a full exhaust and cat (£700) then two new headlights, some welding and sticky rear brake drum. Looking at over £1k. Wasn't worth it as it wasn't being used much. Just as we scrapped it, son's car broke. Tough. He's getting public transport or taxi until he fixes his car (he owns two).
