No, in fact it can be worse, depending on the herbs.

I used to love the smell of Clan pipe tobacco! A bloke used to smoke it down my then local pub in the 1980's, when I worked behind the bar. It had a sweet smell, so different from other pipe tobacco smells which smelt quite harsh. One old farmer customer used to smoke a clay pipe and bring a half bottle of whiskey in to sneakily pour into his pint of mild beer in his own barrel glass. I never said anything to the landlord or other customers about his whisky habit. He'd look at me, tap his nose and wink saying 'You'll get your reward for your discretion young fellow'. When he died many years later I received a letter from his solicitor saying he'd left me £3,000 in his will!😲 How about that eh! It would've been cheaper to buy measures of whisky than reward me so well for my silence, but I think he enjoyed the sneaking whisky in throughout his drinking days, and he thought it was worth it!😉

Is herbal pipe 'tobacco' safe, as in none carcinogenic? I fancy buying a vintage style pipe and some 'safe tobacco'. I think smoking such a pipe will enhance my weirdo, eccentric image.🤔 🧐

very much doubt it. Inhaling any smoke is very bad for you, and I'd hazard to guess that the tar in fag smoke which causes cancer and lung problems is merely from the smoke itself rather than the nicotine, though that's also bad for you as well.

Nice story Mr Accy. My grandparents back in Ireland used to smoke pipes, their preferred brand of baccy was

They used it in block form, and sort of peeled bits off with a penknife, into the pipe, then lit with an ember from the turf fire.
My mum still has the corn cob pipe that my gran used, one of a few reminders of those times.
