While out and about today I got talking to a bloke who had a pair of clogs on. Not 'Dutch' clogs but the type they used to wear in the cotton and wool Mills of Lancashire, and that place over The Pennines!😬 On asking him how much they cost, expecting him to say about 300 quid he told me they were just over £100. That's not bad at all! He said they have many in stock, but also do custom made to whatever you want ones, they'll make for you in a fortnight or so. I might have a look to the place as it's only about half an hour from my home.😉

I've watched a few videos of clogs since posting the above. While watching one, mentioning the stiff wooden sole, making walking in them different for some, it came to me! There I was watching those videos that mentioned the stiff sole when I thought of SPD cycling shoes! I knew I'd worn something with stiff soles before, but couldn't remember what. Now I know! For many years I wore and walked in unmovable soled SPD shoes when out cycling. As long as they were cleated mountain bike, not smooth soled road bike shoes they were easy to walk in.

Field service cap: still worn by certain regiments in some circumstances. Duke of Lanx officers for one.

I'm thinking about travelling to that clog makers in Mytholmroyd, possibly soon. Is it close to the motorway exit, or what? I'm not used to unfamiliar journeys these days, so I'm a bit nervous about going there.🙄

No it’s not. I presume you mean the M62, you would have either go through Littleborough and Todmorden or come off at Halifax and go through Sowerby Bridge.

Mmm, sounds just like a situation where I'd get totally lost, or worst have a bump!🙄 I think I'll ask a neighbour if he fancies a day out, with him driving. He comes from Bradford/Huddersfield way so he's familiar with those roads, and often offers to take folk here and there for a tank full of petrol, or diesel in his case. Fifty quid of fuel will save me a lot of hassle, plus it'd cost me 20 quid in petrol if I went in my Fiat 500, which I don't fancy at all!😕

If I remember correctly the clog factory is on the main road just as you leave Mytholmroyd heading towards Hebden Bridge however it’s very busy on that road as the main road between Todmorden and Halifax.

'Very busy road'?! 😲 It sounds like an accident waiting to happen!🙄 Yes, definitely best to ask my neighbour. I'm sure he'll say yes.😉

I bet it's not that big a place as you'd imagine it to be.

I remember going to Carradice saddle bags etc in 12 miles from me Nelson near Burnley, a few years ago. With it being known throughout the country and beyond, I imagined it to be the size of a large factory. On finding it, after much seeking as it's down a terraced back street, I was surprised to see an old stone building about the size of maybe two or three terraced houses! On going in the place I saw a handful of mostly women, sewing saddle bags on machines and a small room/shop where you could buy slight seconds for a very reasonable price. 😉

iirc you're correct, I believe it's in an old mill building, best bet to get there for Accy would be the M65, then leave at the A646, & follow this road through Mytholmroyd & into Hebden Bridge, if I'm not Mistaken Walkley's Clogs are the other side of Hebden Bridge, on the right hand side
Edit: I remembered wrong, it just before Hebden Bridge, in Mytholroyd, but it's a relatively straight forward journey from Great Harwood
