I can tie one if I think about it and if I have a mirror. I do have a DJ which I wear a couple of times a year with the regulation black bow tie. I do have one other bow tie, but I agree with you - the look is at best, “American preppy”, and, at worst, “English eccentric”! 😉
There's something about looking down at your chest when wearing a bow tie and seeing just shirt buttons, compared to looking down when wearing a tie and seeing a nice tie, not just shirt buttons!🤔🧐

Yes, they are a bit King Charles visits the Chelsea Flower Show(ish)!🤔 🧐 😉👍 I think I'll wear them this evening with my beige Cordings linen suit and a dark slightly opened neck shirt.🤔 🧐 😉

I didn't wear the shoes. I thought about it, but on only going to Tesco yesterday, due to the now annoying me immensely heat, I thought they deserved a much better first outing!I 🧐

I learnt how to tie a bowtie from watching Youtube. It's a bit tricky and if you're not doing it frequently you forget the process but once you can do it all those pre tied ones suddenly look crap. You also get to look like a boss later in the evening when you undo it and leave it hanging loosely round your neck.

I am more concerned with what he is doing to his face . ☹️ Too many nips and tucks , if he is not careful he will end up looking like Simon Cowell .

I noticed this, starting to get that puffy look also. The beard and hair dying is also rather noticeable and has the air of a DIY 'just for men' job. Hope he eases off and goes a bit more 'au naturel'.

On the subject of cravats, I do like them, but don't think they look as smart as a tie. On others they night do, but on my half a usual width neck I don't know. Bow ties are ok(ish), but to me they look a bit 'Clark Kent' nerdyish! I wore one in this photo of me and brother taken in 1965 when I was four, but children wore bow ties in those days.

No way can/could I tie a proper bow tie! I can tie one on my knee when practising, but when looking at my reflection in a mirror to tie one, no way can I do it!

Oh wow Accy you’re only a year older than me, I always thought because of your sense of style you were a man of a more serious vintage .
I have to say I’ve never worn a cravat ,I’ve always thought of them as things my old dad’s generation would wear. I ve never worn a bow tie voluntarily either but there is a picture of me floating around from the mid to late 1960 in one . What is it with sixties parents wanting a picture of their sons in one 😂😂😀

Brandy yes but no cigar (much as I'd love to have the odd one). I stopped smoking cigarettes many years ago and I know that I'm kidding myself to think I could enjoy the occasional cigar without quickly reestablishing my smoking habit 😢

Way back on my 50th, mate was taunting me by waving a huge and expensive Cuban cigar around, I called his bluff by grabbing it and blowing it all down to a small pile of ash. First time I ever smoked, and never felt the urge to do it again.
