Black is fine with a blue tweed suit, like the rather fine one I bought on your recommendation. But that said, I reckon brogues or semi-brogues would be better than plain oxfords if worn with tweed. Plain black Oxfords are arguably the most formal style so are better with a business suit or for black tie events
I found a pair of black Loake 1880 Oxfords a few years ago, in the retro clothing shop I work in. They were in my 10 size and looked hardly worn. Perfect for £30 or so, but unfortunately they had slippery leather soles, so I didn't buy them. I could've had rubber Vibram soles fitted in one of the nearby Timpson shoe repairs etc places for £35. Damn! Why didn't I think of doing that at the time!🙄
