I'm sure that if I were to visit Cordings in Mayfair and announce who I was, they'd be very polite with me, but maybe also slightly 'he's a northerner', patronising as well. I would like to visit their store, but the getting there problem far outweighs the 'joy' thoughts I'd get from visiting the place. 😏

I don't think they would. I lived in London for years and frequented many Mayfair shops and stores (including having a Savile Row suit gifted to me some 20 odd years ago). As someone with a distinct Black Country accent I never felt I was being patronised in any way. I suspect many of the more experienced retail staff also know it is not always those that have the flashiest outward appearance that have real money.

Well my home address does have a famous horse racing venue and 'square' in its title, so I like to think that the Cordings distribution centre when sending out my items, thinks I live somewhere 'posh'. In reality I live in a one bedroom social housing flat, so maybe it'd be best to not shatter their illusions!😉

Cordings once lowered themselves to have a shop in Harrogate.

really? i'm surprised, i thought these days people were over that sort of thing, there're so many accents etc. in london

though i'd guess people in most stores have little or no idea what's going on with customers who buy online

What happened to it?🤔

I think closed it after Covid. There is mens tailors called Rhodes Wood in Harrogate who’s owner has a pretty good pedigree in the clothing industry. He did a review of the clothes shops in Harrogate when Cordings was open and his review of Cordings was low to middling.
If you ever win the lottery Accy take a trip to Rhodes Wood you would think you’d gone to heaven.

Sophia Loren would be all flustered if she watched you getting out of that in your finest tweed.

Regarding your bottom paragraph, some clothes, shoes/boots sellers invite online customers to send in photos and reviews of the items they're bought. Which is good as you can get a better idea of the items when not professionally photographed to make them look as attractive as possible. I suppose that's the best seller/customers interaction you can get, if you can't make it to the store, if they have one that is.

I do that with my Y fronts. I wear them a few years then send in a pic so they can see how they're holding up.
