At dress up events after reaching the top of his profession he tended to wear well cut but decidedly mod style suits too

Didn’t he wear a Paul Smith velvet suit for Sports personality of the year.

I dont think he was a mod at school, he kind of got into it following the 90's Britpop thing. He now says he never actually liked it and it was a character front to deal with the fame and fortune, despite him dressing like it before he was famous.
I've got a few bits from his Fred Perry collaboration - not for his endorsement but I do like the mod influence/cycling crossover they have.

I think Mark Powell was his tailor, at least, in peak times.

Yet there is an article stating he was bullied at school for being a Mod, also in the 90's he was a teenager.
