One evening we went out and SO was driving. She's driving rather briskly, accelerating away from the lights and so on, not breaking speed limits though and I ask her if she always drives like that.
"Yes, I like the sound of the engine!"
I once went on a visit to the driving school at Essex Police HQ. One of the exhibits we were shown was a pile of clutch plate fragments that looked like casino chips, and a half shaft bent like a banana. They'd come out of a patrol car that was driven by a PC who was rather fond of sharp starts, until one day the clutch shattered sending a shockwave through the transmission that bent the half shaft.

I used to be much the same until I broke a leaf spring on my Capri.

We all had a go on the reaction timer whilst we were there too, it was a Mini flloorpan & running gear with a timer and a red light on the dashboard: get your feet on the clutch & brake when the red light comes on. My time was 300ms, to which the supervisor said "You're bang on the national average".

A few local runs today.

It definitely needs a suspension overhaul, a bit clunky over the bumpy stuff.

Aircon was pleasant today

There were some lovely Minis at the Prescott Historique on Saturday. I wasn't there, but watched the live feed on the Tube of You. They were particularly rapid up the hill - the fastest Mini did it in sub 50 seconds which puts it in the same league as the Formula Junior Brabham and Cooper single seaters in terms of time.

This late original Mini has been parked in the same spot for a good 10 years and I doubt it's moved , the bush around it has been trimmed back recently, a friend of mine has tried to buy it a couple of times but no luck.

The F56 tidied up the proportions slightly and improved some of the fussiest detailing. If the images are to be believed the forthcoming new generation looks pretty funky.

Performance and handling wise they kick the old R50 and its derivatives in the nuts and steal their lunch money, and the fit and finish is a big improvement.
