Proper tobacconists. They don't exist anymore. They smelled wonderful!

Yes the smell of Old Shag is something to be savoured.

Two things have made me wish for the good old days today.

One, I remember when you could go and pay for your petrol at a garage without queuing for 15 minutes behind customers paying for a weeks shopping and,

Secondly, when black pudding had big lumps of deliciously unhealthy white fat in it rather than the mushy muck they sell now as black pudding.

Trolley buses. No tracks, pneumatic tyres.

Dustbin men that lifted that single heavy, stinky bin, carried it from round the back of the house, down the path, hoisted it into the back of an open wagon then came all the way back with it and put it where they found it.

And earned their money big style.

Having to eat what was in season.

In summer you could have plums and strawberries, in the winter there wasn't much but swedes and potatoes. The idea that you could have whatever you wanted whenever you fancied it (along with the big accompanying price tag that strangely stayed just as high even when things were in season) sort of slithered in along with the supermarkets, sometime in my teens/'20s.
