Thank you. I did live in Ipswich for a few years, well after the trolley bus era. A few of the posts remained here and there but were getting dangerous through rust decay and were easily toppled.

They were gotten away with after someone was murdered in one sometime in the '80s.

God yes! They smelled sort of mauve.

On the lower deck, there was a cord running full length on each side of the bus - you tugged it to ring the bell.

when I was 9 or 10 my whole class went to a birthday party on the bus after school. I still remember the ticket being about 30 foot long. ( clearly a false memory as 20 x 3 inches is not that long)

Odd, isn't it? A discarded blank ticket roll, found below a seat, was like priceless treasure to me and my fellow tiny friends.
