It feels a bit like car crash tv watching the luge. I'm watching with my eyes half shut especially with the slower sliders.

Rich P, I was trying to be polite about the Canadian skating suits, but I can see that you agree with what I was thinking.

I like the way the crowd at the finish cheer the lugers like they've won the gold and they shake their tin trays like they have:biggrin:

Perhaps the Noodlettes would like to watch some downhill skiing, which IIRC is on BBC2 at 6pm tomorrow.

Elder Noodlette is off to the Alps next weekend with the school so she is looking forward to seeing the downhill...I think she reckons she'll be copying them

I don't mind watching the sports at the Olympics - it's the commentators that put me off. I find their vocal tones too strident - even when there's nothing much happening it ends up sounding like something amazing is unfolding.

The rugby commentators over the weekend were great - pity you couldn't hear the ref's microphone so well in the England game, though: I find listening to the ref is important in understanding the decisions made - then later in the evening, watching the Olympics I felt like turning the sound off!

bring on the biathlon, sport of kings and queens of endurance and cardio control tis excellent!

Quite right. I was fortunate enough to compete in the biathlon and if you have never watched it try and catch the pursuit, mens and womens on wednesday I think. The beauty and excitement of this sport is that unlike so many others that involve a race, there is no certainty of the fastest skier winning [although it helps]. Hitting 5 targets the size of a golf ball at 50 metres [prone position] while you are trying to get your heart rate down from around 180 bpm aint easy. Penalty for each missed target is 150 metres. Very much a sport of extreme fitness and strong nerves.
BTW in the pursuit they start in the order and time difference they finished the "sprint" races [stupid name] so basically they are all chasing the winner from yesterday - Vincent Jay of France.
Apologies to everyone for going on a bit but this sport was my life for a while and before that cross country skiing.
If you can watch it on Eurosport it's tons better, adverts apart. The beeb bless 'em are out of their depth on anything other than Figure Skating and Downhill Skiing.

perhaps i should have said:

'watching the moguls brings a hump to my throat'

it was just a joke, kirstie ;)

but i did ski moguls once about 20 years ago. it was hard work and not very enjoyable!
