Well, the 500M longtrack speed skating was excellent despite the ice breaking up half way through... and the downhill was close as anything, with my favourite skier second. But I can't help thinking that downhill isn't what it used to now they mark out the course so clearly...

Okay, I'd maybe have given him the benefit of the doubt....but we had the belter where the 2 French guys touched briefly and managed to rescue the situation, it looked like they could have come to grief if it'd have been 2 drunk blokes on 'boards but I'd expect Olympic athletes to be able to manoeuvre properly. But not for Ed, it was "Whooooah! Did you see that, just how....I mean how do they practice to be able to do that! Whooah!" Pillock.

I liked it, it was refreshingly bad. My fave bit was when she exclaimed 'ooooh, what a fall' and I was thinking, wot? There's no race now....'Oh I was just looking out of the commentary box window, some guy really went for it'......Wot, wot, the commentary box window, get a camera on it quick.

Tell me about it! I'm surprised they included her after yesterday! Ed was good though, wasn't he
I though Zoe Gillings did really well, 8th place is a good achievement, was just unfortunate things didn't go her way in the semi.

yeah, i know what you mean, is that for safety reasons?

Yup. The days of Franz Klammer giving it some serious welly whilst having no idea what was coming round the next corner are long gone...

I think it's brilliant that Magdalena Neuner got a gold in the pursuit. I reckon that biathlon is possibly the sport which benefits most of all from being televised and it is good because there is always a genuine chance that the super duper favourites lose if they miss a couple of shots.

I think it's a bit odd that their starting positions were defined by how well or badly they did in a separate event though.

You're not perhaps thinking of where they jump off that big slope thing and then go for a race the next day? That's called the Nordic Combination.

No, Andy, the start times for 10K Biathlon yesterday won by Neuner were decided by their finishing positions from the 7.5K (?) race at the weekend. Some of the pre-Olympic favourites were already doomed yesterday by starting 2 or 3 minutes behind. One, whose name escapes me, moved from 35th to 6th (or thereabouts) by shooting clear and probably skiing faster than the winner but the handicap was too much to make up.
