perhaps i should have said:

'watching the moguls brings a hump to my throat'

it was just a joke, kirstie ;)

but i did ski moguls once about 20 years ago. it was hard work and not very enjoyable!

Oh sorry I forget where I'm posting sometimes. <note to self> look for the pun in everything, look for the pun....</note to self>

A friend at work was telling me he'd watched the opening ceremony and the stadium went noticeably quiet when the German athletes entered. Is there any reason for ill feeling between them and the host nation?

My favourite was the Mini ski-jumping...

Sorry, that was the Top Gear repeat last night....

I'm just amazed anyone can stand up on skis or skates, let alone race or pirouette on them...

Just watched and really enjoyed the Snowboard Cross. If you get a chance to watch the womens later in the week make sure you catch it. Made all the better by the comedy commentating from Ed Leigh and a Norwegian female boarder who both got every prediction wrong and mixed up names all over the shop.

Quality.

They were starting to annoy me, she just kept shouting 'No' or 'Oooh' every few seconds - fairly randomly as well. He just got excited about everything - even when there was nothing to get excited about. I mean how many 'best' or 'most exciting' races can there be?

And whilst I'm having a rant, Claire Balding is starting to annoy me as well. Especially when she is speaking with the Canadian woman at the ski location and looks puzzled everytime she uses a 'Canadian phrase' as she (Balding) puts it...'Is that a Canadian phrase?' she asks feigning puzzlement. And I know where someone's head, hands, body and legs are so there is no need for you to point to these body areas or hold them up in front of the camera when telling us what injuries someone has sustained now or in the past!

Snowboard cross was fun!
Me and my 10 y/o were having bets on which rider was gonna stack-it each run.

Have to agree that the coverage is crap. No decent highlights of the Downhill, the Blue Riband event. Watched the Snowboard cross live on 3, immediately turned to BBC2 when 3's coverage ended and they showed... The snowboard cross...
A 30 second medley for the downhill.

The Norwegian commentator actually started commentating on some guy she saw falling down out the window of the commentary box at one point. I guess she doesnt get much commentary work.
But I agree with you about Balding. The Canadian lady used the phrase 'Crap Shoot' earlier and Balding asked her to translate instead of moving on.

The Canadian coverage isn't much better... they don't seem to show anything that doesn't involve a Canadian medal chance. Plus the boosterism gets rather wearying. Everyone else in the world seems to be of the opinion that this was a stupid place to have the games (too warm) and what with the dangerous luge / bobsleigh track, the huge protests and police crackdowns, the fact they had to refund all the snowboarding spectators because the rain made the stands unstable, the fact that the ice in the long-track centre keeps breaking up (and they can't blame that on the weather) etc. etc, it's all a bit shoot actually - and in danger of being one of the worst Winter Olympics ever... however, you wouldn't know any of this if just watched the official coverage here.

If you think that's bad... try watching the Commomwealth Games from Wales... every night try to see what's happening and all we got was 'Wales at the Games'. No medals and not a clue who these people were.

just watched the women's 10km cross-crountry, i really wanted that estonian to win, she gave everything! still fair play to the winner, she was only 22 as well.

The woman was crap, but i won't hear anything bad said about Ed, he's a top bloke and i thought he carried the commentary! The actual event was good, think the riders did the best they could with that terribly cobbled together run (Hay bales etc)... Can't wat for the snowboard half pipe now  Come on Ben!

Okay, I'd maybe have given him the benefit of the doubt....but we had the belter where the 2 French guys touched briefly and managed to rescue the situation, it looked like they could have come to grief if it'd have been 2 drunk blokes on 'boards but I'd expect Olympic athletes to be able to manoeuvre properly. But not for Ed, it was "Whooooah! Did you see that, just how....I mean how do they practice to be able to do that! Whooah!" Pillock.
