Bicycle landing gear meant they couldn't 'rotate' the angle of attack for takeoff, so the USAF had special runways built (or older ones extended) to let them build up enough speed to take off in level flight. There used to be a "JATO" rocket-assisted takeoff package that could be installed to allow them to use shorter runways, but those were abandoned long ago. So it's entirely possible for a B-52 to safely land on a runway it can't then take off from.

Think that's true if Leeds Bradford airport, big planes 747 etc that landed need to fly out empty.

I thought I'd heard of people doing local sightseeing trips on Concorde but perhaps they were with limited fuel??

I made many parts for Concorde in my BAe days at Filton, Hurn and Weybridge but the most exciting thing we ever did was the escape chute simulator rig. When completed volunteers were called for so we all put our names down and so did all of the secretarial staff. What fun we had sliding down the chute, girls screaming and bodies everywhere in a heap at the bottom.
Later in life I worked on the Olympus engine and helped with the rudder falling off problems with Fairy Aviation.

They used to do that in old days from Liverpool airport

flew up from Heathrow subsonic and landed in time for the rich people to get to the Grand National

Then took off for a supersonic trip ove the Atlantic while the race was on
landed in time to refuel and take the rich people back to London after the race

My Dad and I used to go and watch every Grand National day

one year we actually went out on the supersonic trip - which was just simply amazing

but she did take off wit absolutely full thrust and just got off the ground in time

which was no bad thing when the viewing point at that time was just behind the start point for take off!!!
