Feeling emotional. Saw a Spitfire fly past while out in the garden today.

Why?
Now, a Hurricane, that took the brunt of the Battle Of Britain and other things, but which we as a nation appear to have a collective amnesia about, yes, but...

I remember being at an airshow at Leuchars (one of the last) a few years back and a Spitfire appeared to do a display.
Cue EVERYONE and their Goldfish flocking over to the perimeter to see it... Except for me - I took the opportunity to take pictures of the other aircraft with nobody in, including a Catalina Flying Boat, a Royal Flight BAE146 and a VC - 10 (147)! 😍

Spitfires are ten - a - penny anyway, they even have one in the Glasgow Art Gallery (Kelvingrove), suspended from the roof.

The point was, if you want pictures of aircraft with nobody in, then get a Spitfire to lure everyone away like zombies! 🤣

Besides, there are no VC - 10s left flying and at the time, we knew the RAF were going to withdraw them, so...

Hardly an 'Invention', when the plane had already been invented.

Fair dos at the appearance and all, but I still hate the way people go on about them as if they single handedly won the war or whatever 🙄🤦‍♂️

I’m not sure I posted my sighting of a Spitfire in the right place, I’ve sparked a weird debate. Perhaps there is a ‘Things that make me emotional thread’ which would have been more appropriate.

To explain….I don’t live near any airfields and I don’t go to air shows, but this lone plane suddenly appeared flying quite low over my house. There was something about the silhouette and sound that made me go and check on FR24. Looked like it had been down Swansea way and was following the M4 back home to Biggin Hill.
It was exciting, for me, as it is an iconic aircraft which suddenly appeared out of the blue.
I’ve never seen one before.

The most I usually get is air ambulance helicopters ^_^

My Dad got annoyed the same way about people going on and on about Lancasters
He was ground crew during the war (Armourer) and worked on Stirlings and Halifaxs

They did a lot of the hard work and were there taking the flack (literally) before the Lanc came along

but all you ever heard is Lancs and ever film makes out that they won the war
along with Spitfires

Sorry, I thought it was 'emotional' in a 'It makes you proud to be British' Gamon kind of way 🙄🤦‍♂️🤣

I was photographing a VC - 10 though, easily one of the most attractive looking airliners ever, save for a Trident, Caravelle, Comet and Concorde.

I also to make a grudging admission of the 707, 727 and 747. That said, some of the Convairs were also quite nice.
