THIS is the kind of post we need on a Prog Rock thread.
It was when Prog went mainstream. Up until then, apart from the festivals, Hyde Park free concerts etc Prog was in smaller venues. The Marquee club was my second home for a few years..

His best ever, IMHO, is Journey to the Centre of the Earth 1974. The original live version recorded in the Albert Hall with David Hemmings narrating....

Crivens! You have just reminded me I used to have that on cassette.

Marillion got off to a good start, although they were never my thing. They sold out, burned brightly commercially for a brief period then quickly faded away.
Their chart success was brief but they have an extremely loyal fan base. They are still making new music and touring.
Fish left in the late 80s, but the current lineup with new singer has been unchanged for over 30 years so they must be doing something right.
And Fish is still churning out his stuff but his voice has gone unlike Marillion’s “new” front man whose voice is still perfect.

Anyone else been listening to Rick Wakeman's The Red Planet? Its a sublime return to grandiose, overblown, prog rock form.
I'm going to listen to it later. Not really my 'thing',but i'll give it a go.🧐

Trust me Accy, its superb. The North Plain in particular is incredible - starts off all weird and then breaks into this wonderfully overdriven rock beat.

Apparently Worshipful Brother Wakeman is interested in asteonomy, and went to a lecture with his chum Dr Brian May Phd. They got to talking about Mars and if/when mankind will visit and something clicked in Wakeman's mind and it inspired him to do an album about Mars.

As an aside, the bassist is much sought after session man Lee Pomeroy, and his work on the album is first class.

I've just listened to a few bits on @Accy cyclist's link, it's like the last 40 years never happened musically. Anyway I might dig out my record tokens and purchase it, just for old times sake.

Also, the mention of Rick reminded me of this, which I posted way back in 2014:

One for all the closet Yes fans here. Rick Wakeman fetched my wife a coffee when they were both at some gathering a few days ago.
