As regular followers if my inane ramblings, AKA drivel, will know I am a dyed in the wool rocker. However, I have a particular fondness for prog. Rush, Tull, Kansas, Yes...it's such a broad church and it's only right that it has its own thread.

So here we are.

I'll start. the new Rich Wakeman album, Red Planet, is due out in June and judging from the little snatches Wakeman has released it sounds like a belter.

Mr Wakeman will be getting my 3 and sixpence when that comes out.

His best ever, IMHO, is Journey to the Centre of the Earth 1974. The original live version recorded in the Albert Hall with David Hemmings narrating.

Not the 'Return to the Centre of the Earth' he did in the 90's or the bloated re-hash of the '74 version that came out a few years ago, the live original. Fantastic.

BTW, rock artists like Jeff Wayne seem to like doing 'updated versions for today's modern audience' which to me, is utter b***cks because they're just really saying 'today's kids can't relate to anything older than they are so we have to update it' which, in turn, translates as; ' We need a new version of an old album to flog for more cash'. Patronising to younger people as its a bit like saying that they can't appreciate classical music. I blame marketing people for that.

Music is about how it makes you feel when you hear it, not when it was recorded etc.

However, good to see on Youtube today's younger generation reacting to Genesis, Floyd, Led Zep etc and it's blowing their minds:okay:.

No one would have believed, in the early
years of the twenty first century, that human affairs were being
watched from the timeless worlds of the internet...

No one could have dreamed Jeff Wayne as being scrutinised, as
someone with a microscope...

I almost want to wear a cape when I listen to Mr. Wakeman, but I resist the urge!! 😂
Here you go...

Never seen him live, but wouldn't mind doing so. My Dad met him once, said he's a very nice bloke, always cracking a joke. Wakeman's a mason and at the time was the chief stonecutter at the Chelsea (?) lodge, the one all the showbiz stars sign up to, and that's how my Dad met him (my Dad's a mason, not a star). i think Mick Abrams was also chief stonecutter at some point - I understand that senior members take it in turns for a year at a time to be the grand kleegle, or whatever they're called.

I saw him several times in Yes, and at Wembley stadium for his Ice Show. Wonderful memories!

I suppose the gown gives easy knee access. ^_^

Prog is not dead.

For those that are interested Airbag, the Norwegian Prog Band not the South American Boy Band of the same name, today released their 5th album A Day at the Beach.

If you are not familiar with Airbag (probably most of you to be fair) I’d suggest dipping your toe into the water by listening to the 17 minute track Homesick or Sounds That I Hear if you prefer a laid-back guitar riff (starts at 4.11).

If you like what you hear I’d check out the albums Identity and All Rights Removed first.

That is all.
