North York Moors have got around that by converting an American S160 locomotive to oil firing. Still means some services are diesel and in high temperatures the S160 is not safe to crew. Not exactly the same as coal fired due to the pong of burnt oil and its currently emitting a very black exhaust which seems at odds to when the Festiniog used oil

Oil-fired steam locos get a build-up of oily crud in the boiler tubes and need periodic sanding to scour them out. This is usually done out in the countryside and it is FOUL, releasing a huge pall of black smoke. Coal-fired engines keep their flues fairly clean as the fly ash is abrasive.

Apart from the test runs on the Ipswich-Felixstowe line earlier in the year, I've yet to see these in action. The nearest has been passing a couple parked up in the Peterborough freight yard and they always seem to be at either end of aggregates/powder bulk wagons.

Weirdly, I have yet to see any of the new types (class 93 and '99).

That said, in all my years, I have somehow only ever seen one of the Freightliner class 70s, 70003.

I've seen some of the Colas machines though.

The 99's seem to be based at Peterborough and Doncaster, and as far as I can tell the 93's in the North West.

On the other hand what would you call a person that goes onto a RIP thread simply to slag them off over a throw remark made decades before especially when the deceased person had a history mental health problems?

True, but it was Bill Bailey too and also Richard and Judy didn't help either, so it wasn't just him.

I rarely take the numbers now though, that is what spotting really is. 😝😆
