Went for a ride yesterday - wife commented that it was a bit hot so I should take extra water

She seemed smug when I got back and mentioned that I started feeling a bit weird on the way back

actually upped the power assists on the ebike so put in very little effort on the canal path back

was quite funny when I was near home and 2 people passed me on ebikes a man and a woman
The bloke was in front and the motor on his bike was quite loud

His bike was obviously chipped or something as the cycle path is downhill at one point and I was easily doing 20+ mph
i.e. the motor assist had cut out and it was just me pedalling - or not mostly
but his bike was screaming away

but he was not gaining on me at all because his riding was very inefficient - took every corned very sharply rather than sweeping round
and braking heavily in order to do it
when the cycle path went over an entry way there was a concrete barrier and he decided to jump his bike over it at speed

I reckon he was trying to look cool in front of the woman

pity that in doing he looked like a prat!!!

people are weird!

Oh - and last night was like a trip back to the 1970s when I was a teenager

we had a power cut!!!

whole street - in fact probably whole estate - was out

house alarm opposite went off for a while
they were in so looks like that had trouble finding out how to switch it off!

we just got our kindles out and read for a couple of hours

reminded me of the times when we got them when I was young
we had the one remaining open fire all set up and when it went off we went in that room and just sat around the fire and played board games and made toast and crumpets on long forks

we also had them one day a week when I was at school
I found it very annoying as we had Art at that time and the Art room was facing South with bis windows
so we we just told to carry on using paint or whatever we were doing
made no difference
otehr classes were given more fun stuff to do as the rooms were too dark
and let out for lunch early!!

anyway - it was fixed just before midnight so my wife did get her midnight cocoa

I however missed out on several cups of tea during the evening!!

Was that during the miner’s strike or something? I remember them too and I think if I remember correctly, we were told in advance which areas would be off so you could at least prepare a bit.

I'm awake and sitting downstairs reading the forum. Sparky is coming at 09:00 to replace some light switches with wireless ones ( the wiring on the upstairs lighting circuit is dodgy and has been replaced, the cables to the light switches are chased into the wall so it's easier to fit wireless wall switches). The switches need to be paired to each individual receiver, so I did that myself yesterday evening as I was bored 😉

Interesting.
It this the “quinetic” type thing?
What brand?

We had a sparky recommend those a few years back(thatch roof), but he then disappeared….& you still have to get power to the lights - he was suggesting wall mounted.

In the end, another sparky rocked up & found that circuit to be fine - it was the oven circuit that was iffy ‘cos of a knackered old oven - replaced that and all good, certificate signed!

Yes - you we gievn areas at low medium and high risk

High pretty much meant it was certain
Medium meant probably not
low - I never remember getting one then

think it was the Miners - normally was in those days before Thatcher out played Scargill

anyway - Scottish Power say there were 2 cuts but both are fixed and no more expected so I guess we have to believe them!

Get used to it!

I can revert to the camper van which has power, just, light, heat, 65 litres of fresh water and Starlink Internet, so I can be self sufficient for a good few days when our overlords cock things up.

Flat white is my preferred brew too but I was told that it was a capucino without the chocolate sprinkled on top.
Just find another coffee shop without pretentious owners!

AFAIK Flat White is the same as Latte but less milkier and less foamier.

Costa only do Flat White (my favourite) in small and I usually order a large Latte instead as I like a large cup of coffee. A bit annoying.
