Just wait until they award the contract to Fujitsu. You'll probably explode!

Their sitemjs almost unusable with all the ads and pop-ups. Its a good thing they have nothing worth reading.

They have quite a few articles I think might be useful to read

but then I notice they all say "M+"
and the percentage of these over the normal ones is increasing

It's almost like the money is more important to them than the ethics and journalistic values!!!

One expects no less from an organisation that thinks Ant and Dec will bring in business.

I try to read news from a variety of sources - its unhealthy to simply read a paper that agrees with my own view, one should be challenged with different ideas and perspectives - but the Mail is woefully bad. Im not an especially bad dyslexic but their dreadful site is almost unreadable.

I try to look at the Express as well

and sometimes CNN and other US sources

I also look at what people are saying on Quora and Reddit - with a suitable dose of wariness about what they say

as you say - a wide range of views is necessary to form a proper opinion

but sometimes I just end up thinking "when we came down from the trees - we should have been more careful who we allowed to follow us"

The express is clickbait with little substance. Makes the mail look authoritative.

Sky, Gruinard, ITV news, CNN, New York Times. All left leaning, but to varying degrees of rabidness and disagree with one another with sufficient regularity to provide a healthy mix.

Id read more the other way too, but I already pay for the NYT and dont want to be paying yet more for the 'graph.

I have no issue with an ID card. We carry phone around with banking stuff on, various personal information anyway etc.

Seems the ones who fear it most could be those with something to hide?

Walk down any street and likely to be on multiple CCTV cameras so the privacy horse has long bolted.

Just got a message from Santander

they have - for my convenience - switched me to an account with no "rewards"

which I knew about
what I didn;t know if that this will require a new card and PIN
but it is OK because they are sending it to me - if I have not already got it, which I haven't

problem is that I will be abroad for over a week

so I went onto their website and found the "Chat" option (which annoys me - it isn;t a chat - it is me asking a question and hopefully them giving an answer!)

anyway - I typed in my question
and it worked out that I am asking about switching my account
I'm not - they have done it
so give me 5-6 options for questions about how to do it
and no "none of the above option"

so I got fed up quite quickly and just copied my original question and pasted it in every time they asked for a response
eventually it gave up and said it was "passing my query onto a colleague"

who will reply some time later

so the chat is not even a chat - it is a computer system trying to get away wil delivered stock answers to simple question
and then a too small group of humans that can type in answers if you persist
at some point in the future

I presume it is using AI - and the I bit of that needs some work!!

Frustrating!

Morning!

Looks like I am out on a limb here amongst you grumpy retirees!

I quite like the notion of a national ID card.

Would've come in handy when we were setting up our VW Connect App a couple of years ago.

And, more recently, for my daughter starting a new job a year ago and currently obtaining a new mortgage. Both entailed irritating, and time consuming, POI checks as she has neither passport or driving licence.

Can't do a debate here, obviously, but I honestly can't see any downside to having one.

Yes, I agree, my only misgiving is, how comprehensively will government screw this up?
