On the subject of ironing
I used to be a teacher in a small girl's school - it was an independant school until a few years before and still had a lot of the same teachers and they way of thinking - a lot of the sort of female teachers who were the people who were the foundation of the local hunt and other "Huntin' SHootin' and fishin'" set
there was a lot of "this is what women do and this is what men do" type of thinking
The subject of ironing came up one day at lunch - I commented that I did all teh ironing at our house
my ex never ironed - and basically did naff all but that is a long story
anyway - a lot of the time I didn;t even iron the shirts I wore under my suit when teaching - although the first thing I normally did when I got into school was take my suit jacket off
Anyway - I asked them if they though my shirt had been ironed or not
they said it obviously had
It hadn;t - it had been washed and then dried hanging on the line
we did the same question for a whole week - they had it down as 3 ironed and 2 possibly not itoned
none had been ironed
but all had been worn for a 45 card drive to get to work , worn under a jacket for a while, then worn for 1/2 a day while teaching
In my opinion by the time I got to work there was no way to tell if it had been ironed or not by the time I got to work - it was even worse when I used to communte by train in winter - the shirt would have been under a coat and suit jacket for an hour by teh time anyone saw it!
Nowadays - I iron t-shirts if they need it (i.e. if you could tell after wards - and smarted shirts - again if it will show
and trousers most of teh time
anyone ironing undeis and socks has too much time on their hands
I love ironing hankies and t-towels but there is no real point otehr than the perfection achieved!
