Not much to do today due to rain.Decided to watch the TDF on channel 4 Boring commentary racing not very exciting.Changed over to Eurosport.thought the commentary might have been a bit more interesting No.Switched off after one hour.

To think I religiously used to watch three weeks of the TDF

I will now go and wash the lunch pots and then do a bit of channel hopping to see if i can find something to keep me amused this wet and dreary Saturday afternoon ☹️☹️☹️

I’ve only just put it on thinking I would catch the end but appear to have missed it.

Still very warm and muggy here so I lay down for an hour rather than go back out.

Rigth - where was I
Anyway - the grandkids (plus parents, aunt and cousin and other grandparents - have been away in Turkey and came back a few days ago
hencce we have not seen then for a few weeks - and had them (all 3) over night last night

Great time had by all - except that I never sleep well when they come over as every slight noise wakes me up when they are here

One slight drama
SWMBO had an appointment at the skin/beauty place at yesterday afternoon so I dropped her off with the kids in the car and we adhourned to the local park which has a large playground

All good - kids instructed to avoid the water play stuff at all costs and obeyed perfectly

then SWMBO rang after 30 minutes and just as I said hello the middle kid started screaming - REALLY screaming in pain
he was only a yard or two from me so I was there in a second
Turns out he was on a little bridge over a tunnel and had stuck his left leg through the railing over the top
then bent it at teh knee and tried to pull it back to find t was stuck
so he pulled harder which hurt and he panicked and pulled harder

I basically dropped my phone - his gran being still online next to him and grabbed him just as he pulled back again with his leg straight this time and came free
but was till screaming from the shock and pain in his knee
(BTW - he is 6 but SEN so how he reacts to something can be unusual sometimes - can be that of an intelligent 6 year old or that of a 2 year old in a 6 year old body!!!)
Anyway - so his gran is on the phone and can hear his screaming and knows I am there but has no idea about anything else

anyway his 10 year old sister has run over and is looking helpless and I told her to grab the phone adn tell her gran that he had got his leg stuck and hurt it but is OK but shocked
and sat there with his on my knee in the middle of the playgroung hugging him and saying comforting things until he went fro screaming to crying to whimpering
By then I was pretty sure he was OK physically and when I checked he seemed fine but his knee was sore arounf the sides - nice bruise this morning!

Anyway his sister was great - she kept an eye on the 2 year old and talked to her gran and relayed what I said

Now - the strange bitSeveral people came and asked if he was OK

ALL boys about 9-12 years old

NOT ONE ADULT came to see if I needed help!!!!

In the end he walked back to the car - about 200 yards or so - with no problem

and in the end some "magic cream" (AKA anything we had around - in this case some ALoe Vera the skin place had given my wife to cool her face after "somethingsomethingsomething lasers something"
and tea from MacDonalds
fixed it all up just fine

Still seems funny that no-one came to help - wonder if it would have been the same if I was female???

their Dad came to pick them up just after lunch - I went back to bed for an hour to recover!!!!

It’s quite sad nowadays that nobody seems prepared to get involved with anyone else. Even just saying hello to people on our walks who are obviously visitors sometimes gets you a strange look as if you shouldn’t be speaking to them

Something else I have lost interest in over the years. The only televised sport I really enjoy is the athletics and especially big events like the Olympics, World Champs, etc. I have the tennis on but only keeping half an eye on it while browsing.

There have been times when I've lost interest but I've always come back to it, same as Moto GP, there have been times I've lost interest in that and come back to it, they are now doing regular sprint races in Moto GP which can be highly entertaining, the F1 these days is closer than it used to be which can make things more entertaining.

Just got back from the meal.

It's the joint birthday if Mini D, 12, and my step granddaughter, 16. Its odd that Mini D has a 'niece' four years older than her.

Anyway, at 16 granddaughter is entitled to certain alcoholic drinks if served with a meal and in the company of adults. Unfortunately, it turns out its the policy of the restaurant to ignore this and not serve them until they are 18.

Well, it's my policy not to waste time arguing so the nine of us walked out and I spent my 450 quid on a meal at a pub just down the road, who were only too happy to serve her one small drink with her meal and wish her a happy birthday.

So the next time a certain large restaurant chain moans in the media that business is bad you can tell them that they really don't help themselves.

On the subject of kids having aunts and uncles young than them

When I was a teacher in a secondary school there was a girl who had a note saying that she could not be given after school detention - other arrangement were in place
Because as soon as the school day finished she had to walk down to one of the local Primary schools to pick up her Aunt and walk her home

Especially happens when people have "unexpected accidents" in later life

BTW - chucking it down round here - gutter at back can;t cope with it - probably not blocked as such because it is fine when the rain is heavy - just overflows when it is torrential

I think we may need to get some extra down pies put in somewhere- weird thing is that for the whole 4 sides roof there are only 2
and one of then is in next doors side passage and we can;t get to it- although in reality it is OK as they are fine with us going to look at it etc but it could have been round the front so why put it there??

ANyway its raining - a lot

Busy chasing a mole around the garden.
Was active near the end….popped the trap down. Appears the next day 30yards away. Nip out to shops. Another mound of earth next to the new one. Relocate trap….no luck.
Grrr!
Did successfully relocate a small frog to safety though….

Try a peizo ignition, easily sourced from an old gas appliance. Stick the end into the ground and press once or twice.

A piece of inner tube on the case or one the finger either side when you're holding it should prevent you shocking yourself.
