I don't know about the home side of the border, but down here in soft southern land the NHS beg people not to do charity parachute jumps because of the cost to them of treating the injuries! It's reckoned the amount raised is less than that which the NHS has to spend patching them back up!

Never fancied it myself, that's part of the reason I joined the Green Jackets and not the Paras. Fair play to anyone with the stones to jump out of a plane.
There's usually a sign where the parachutes are issued with something along the lines of "If your chute fails to open, your next jump is free/on us".
At Topcliffe some years ago when a woman was there claiming her next jump for free. I'd been on the airfield when her chute failed, suspending all civilian operations.

There have been times when I've lost interest but I've always come back to it, same as Moto GP, there have been times I've lost interest in that and come back to it, they are now doing regular sprint races in Moto GP which can be highly entertaining, the F1 these days is closer than it used to be which can make things more entertaining.

Moto GP is very competitive at the moment and F1 would be minus Verstappen . Well done to McLaren boys

Try a peizo ignition, easily sourced from an old gas appliance. Stick the end into the ground and press once or twice.

A piece of inner tube on the case or one the finger either side when you're holding it should prevent you shocking yourself.

Wouldn’t that need me to know where the mole was?
Currently (sic!) have 3 traps deployed about the garden….🤞

A good pal of my sister was into parachute jumping. Right up until hers failed, and her reserve failed. Luckily another in her group saw what happened and managed to manoeuvre in the air to be able to grab her & hold on when his was deployed 👀
Both lived, but she gave it up after that…..

I had a lie in today. It was 0520🙂.
I bought some strawberries from Aldi, maybe 10 days ago and 2 days later they were 'going off'. So yesterday (no receipt) I complained......no problem, they were replaced foc.
So breckie is strawbobs and yoghurt.

Our Aldi seems to be getting quite a lot of complaints about things with short shelf lives and going off quickly. I was initially excited when we got one but haven’t used it for well over a year now. I’ve stuck with the Co-op. More expensive but things seem to last and I‘m just used to it.

More heavy rain overnight which is due to go off between 8 and 9 so I will just wait. It’s too muggy to have to put a jacket on.

I think you are right Mo.
The opposite happened
a few months ago when I bought a punnet of "ready to eat" plums. 4 weeks later they were still rock hard and went in the bin.
With Aldi fruit, if its not grown in the UK I don't buy it.

I agree Aldi fruit and veg can have a shorter shelf-life. Why? Wish I knew but logic tells me any fresh produce will have roughly the same shelf-life, afterall a pepper is a pepper. I know one criteria in modern plant breeding is to improve shelf-life. The other possibility is post-harvest treatments - basically chucking chemicals on the produce to extend shelf-life. Perhaps Aldi produce has fewer chemicals on it?

I always open and wash pre-packed fresh produce when I get it home. If something is in a sealed bag and is slightly damaged that environment can only speed up the rotting process.

Anyone cracked how to store carrots? It's the holy grail in my house. 🤣

Hello world. Bright and sunny here but despite the forecast I suspect it could rain. Family day for us though I've only heard discussion about #1 son visiting. I guess the rest of the clan will be as it's to celebrate my birthday from last week and #1 son's next week.

I need to crack on. Quite a few minor chores need doing and I need to do my morning stretching and exercises.

:hello:

Good morning folks, trip back from Southwell yesterday, the train from Nottingham to London was extra busy, some people were going to the Blur concert and there was a whole carriage of older schoolchildren off to Wimbledon for the day ( imagine the stress of having to look after them!)
Slept in our own bed last night and had a better sleep.
Onwards and upwards, we're going back for the funeral in about ten days, then we're back for a rest and recharge our batteries before starting our own decluttering.
On a different note, daughter has suggested that we all visit Japan next year, it's a country I've wanted to visit, Mrs Tenkaykev's son works in Thailand so we could all meet up there 🤔 I'm in favour, after all " You're a long time looking at the lid "

Morning all :hello:

Nice and sunny out there at the moment, but rain forecast later.
Bit of tidying up around the garden this morning after yesterday's 'hack & slash' - two dumpy bags and a trailer load of cutting to take to the tip tomorrow.
Off for a stroll down to Watchet at noon for Sunday lunch at the Bell.
