Hi folks hope youve all had a good day :okay:
I have a newbie probably silly question to ask- when you come home from a ride what gear do you leave it in? Since riding i have habitually put it into top, the rational being that the derailleur springs wont get 'tired' from being at full stretch if left in first gear overnight. Is this reasonable or doesnt it matter?

Anyhoo i had a pleasant but chilly spin today, noticed some ice in the gutters  looks like life in the freezer is on its way!

I tend to leave the bike in whatever gear it's in. As it's hilly all around where I live it's normally 2nd or 3rd.
I haven't noticed any problems with the tension on the mechs over the years.

I’ve never given it any thought until now. Most of my rides I tend to drop it into the small ring and about half way through the rear cassette anyway due to slowing down and turning into my street.

biggest chain ring smallest cog. I have both my 2006 trek madones hung on the wall in that configuration like you suggest , didnt do very much cycling in the last year as I was preparing for Irish Life Dublin marathon which took place 2 sundays ago , sadly without me ,as I got injured at the final week . A sickener . will get back to long distance cycling in the Spring with a bit of luck and good health

Spent a few hours cleaning my chimney with a Typhoon rod set , attached to a battery drill . Actual cleaning was minimal time , but the preparation took a while. Its a 6" metal flu for wood burning stove , took a good 8 meters to exit the chimney and had to be careful i didnt knock the metal cowl off the pot. Heaved a sigh of relief when the final rod was pulled down safely and can now light my kiln dried logs without worrying about a fire etc in the chimney. A part of me feels as im in my 70s a couple of years now, I should not take on jobs that could go wrong . Being older has knocked my confidence a bit I think

Weird day

We had to go to a funeral - good friend of my wife - it was the friend of her partner
Although we hadn;t actually seen either of them for quite a few years - she is a nice person but he was what could be called a "charmer" - great company, a good laugh, very knowledgable - but you had to watch him

Anyway - he died of lung cancer - which no-one deserves and his family are devastated - especially his partner of 17 years

great turn out and all that - and a nice non religious place (he didn;t like churches)

all felt rather weird as we had rather cut them off several years ago after he ripped off one too many people we knew

a lot of weird things heard about his will

I am determined that my will will be very simple - it all goes to my wife - and that's it
If we had kids then it would go between them equally

I have seen so many people try to make their will more inclusive and fair - and it often ends up just gettig messed up

so mine will be as simple as possible

Thanks Mo :okay: i was sad to read your post about not wanting to ride because of inconsiderate/hostile drivers.. I wondered whether a bike rack on your car might be an idea, you could drive out with bike onboard and start a ride where its easier going or maybe some offroading. :okay:

I just leave it in what ever gear I was riding it in.

Good morning all.
I think today is a chill one.
Warrington bin collectors are still on strike. They were out for 3 weeks, back for 1 week, out for a further 2. This week they came back for Monday and today**.... then they are out for another 2 weeks.
Even then they are only collecting general waste.
**as my collection day is Thursday its of absolutely no use to me.
My green bin has been rammed full of grass etc for 6 weeks......as is my blue (recycling) bin.
