Big 60 this year then? Seems like yesterday but I’ll be 65 in May. Time is flying by far too quickly!

Yep this is my 60th year and my 30th in Scotland

Thanks. I was hoping to keep it quiet. Amazing isn't it. Yesterday I was 67 and today I'm 68.

I often wonder if I should have had back surgery. I'm sure it is affecting my leg strength due to all the numbness and weakness left by a combination of lumbar disc herniations and sciatica. However, I spoke to a retired doctor who is also a keen runner and cyclist and said back surgery is best avoided unless absolutely essential.

Some years ago I had exactly the same condition. The charge nurse who I knew from previously having spent three months on the neurology ward as a student nurse advised me to avoid surgery at all costs.

He advised me to see an osteopath he knows.Had three treatments and my back was much easier.Iwas called back to hospital to have an epidural injection
Now at 83 I get some back and right knee pain.

I came across an an on line physio who specialises in over fifties .He has published an accompanying book Thriving Beyond Fifty will Harlow Videos on Via google U Tube

I have in my case I have concentrated on his videos strengthening the muscles of the lower back Glutes.Core .Legs and knees.Weakness in these areas can affect pain experienced in other limbs
I have been using exercises for these areas for three weeks on alternative da and have found pain induced by activities such as gardening are affecting me less and I will continue the exercise routine.

I managed to carry two bags ( one at a time) of compost down the garden without using a sack barrow..
