In the new year my Volvo is having new brand 4 new tyres - it'll go to the dealer for the work (it's probably the onky C70 in captivity with full dealer history and I want to maintain that provenance) so I'm probably going to be 8 or 9 hundred sheets down the river for that. Hey ho, it's not like I drink or smoke...much...many times an hour...

I learnt from an early age, the things you don't skimp on are the boots and brakes.

I am a bit confused. I was under the impression that you had sold the Volvo and bought a Peugeot 2008 , according to a previous post, or have I misread it?

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Thought it were odd that the spring, or part of it, managed to fall off.
They usually have something running through them preventing this.

Apparently it was the bottom part of the spring that came away leaving a portion still intact. That was why I was able to drive it to the garage.

I have no idea why or how that makes a difference or anything else. I am just the driver.
