I have a story to tell.

In 1990 I bought a new bicycle which became my best friend. A Nigel Dean Clubman it was. I forget what I paid for it.

In 1992 I lived in a first floor flat. The freeholder advised us that scaffolding would be put up on the Friday afternoon for scheduled works. On the Tuesday beforehand, the scaffolder arrived and put up scaffolding. I was out at the time, and when I arrived home I was surprised to see it. On checking the balcony, yeh you've guessed it the Nigel Dean was gone. I reported it stolen but police showed no interest, saying 'it was a civil matter between the freeholder and me due to their negligence - I'm not sure when bicycle theft was decriminalised, but I guess it must have been about then (sarcasm).

I got a notification through my door to collect something. Goody thinks I, I'm getting my bike back. But no, this was just to say that I had underpaid mail to collect. After spending a morning and five pounds on public transport, I paid the postage on a package. It was from victim support. Brilliant I've now been mugged by the police just to add insult to injury!

About a month later, I was riding the bus, and while the bus was stopped my Nigel Dean went past with a young man sat upon it. So I spoke to the bus driver who promised to drop me off ahead of it if he got the chance. Shortly we saw it left outside the newsagents. So I stole it right back.

In 1998 it was stolen again from my garage this time and I didn't see it again. Recently I happened to find one on ebay, so I bid on it and bought it for £99. Bargain I thought.

Well I got it home and it had one person's name sign written on the frame, and elsewhere another name from another previous owner. When I turned it over, there was my name etched into the bottom bracket near the frame number.

Finally, me and Nige are reunited.

Does it still ride as you remember it, even though it has been around the block so to speak?

Welcome back @monkers ,
What have you been up to since you last visited?

Hiya. Thank you. Oh you know, collecting birthdays and bicycles - currently at n+5.

Now that I have received my first state pension payment, I can say that I have my place on this forum. ha.

I had some health issues as you might remember; some still ongoing, but the heart issue after the scare of being recorded as at high risk of sudden death had been resolved as 'nothing wrong' and 'you have as good a heart as a forty year old'. Very odd.

Other than that, still cycling, some club rides, some with other half, but I still somehow prefer to spend that time solo.

Oh and spending money. That has been a recurring theme - new central heating, new kitchen, new bathroom, etc etc.

It had some non-standard parts fitted in the meantime - odd wheels, odd tyres (one a bit perished). The handlebars, stem and saddle all swapped out - but rather good quality mudguards fitted. It had rat traps on when I first owned it. The gears weren't working too well, nor the brakes.

I haven't taken a picture since, but I've just finished fixing it up. It now has new wheels and tyres, a Shimano Tiagra ten speed group set, better bars, stem and saddle. So it's been whizzed round the block, and ready for it's first proper ride out, which might be this coming Sunday on the club run.
