Hi folks :okay: had a nice surprise today....a big bag of apples left on my doorstep! I often stop and chat to an old dear who has a splendid garden full of fruit n veg and is very wild life friendly. Anyhow i dropped her in some kohl rabbi and carrots and she reciprocated with a big bag of apples ^_^ so its apple crumble time, custard or cream? decisions...decisions
Rim brakes.....hmm im definitely going off them. Put my new front wheel in this morning and while doing the fiddly brake adjustment managed to strip a brake block screw thread. Thing is i dont want them moving so do them up tight but there isnt much lea way between tight and stripping. I get through a lot of blocks and its getting tedious with rim wear and the faff of toeing in etc So i feel rim brakes really are a thing of the past...might be ok for pottering and low mileage but will look forward to having discs. :okay:

Hello all, I’ve not posted here for a while. But Mr Chief, a word of caution about disc brakes, they require much less frequent adjustment than rim brakes, and of course the wheel lasts a lot longer without the wear on the rim, but when they do need work they often need a lot of it. My LBS has on a number of occasions failed in his attempts to fit new pads because the disc calipers haven’t freed up enough to take the new pads. So he has ended up having to fit a whole new caliper. And that gets even more effort with hydraulic calipers. Thinking about it though, I wonder if this is more of a problem with road discs, when he has replaced pads on my mtb discs he has never had the same problem.

Thanks Flick of the Elbow, ive never used discs on a cycle before but have had discs on motorcycles for many years [40 ish]. I should imagine there much the same. I dont understand why fitting new pads should ever be problem...just push pistons in and in they go, just like a motorcycle. :okay:

I was wondering about adjusting the disc brakes on my bike so I asked at the LBS
I was assuming that there was a thingy on the whatsit that could be twiddled until perfection was achieved

He said he never bothers (with my rather cheap version anyway) as you just take them for a short ride and jam the brakes ona couple of times and the sort themselves out

I'm sure more sophisticated ones exist - but that is what he said about mine!

Looks like we are changing doctor this afternoon!

Good fed up with the one we have - single GP place so if she is off you could get anyone
Plus she has been very dismissive about symptons we have had several times
Actually laughed at me at one opoint when I asked about some very itchy raised lumps on my back - which, naturally, I could not see
She looked and laughed saying "No no no They are just warts!!"

I have also caught her out on a few occaisions where she has said things that are not medically accurate - with our information coming from government websites and places like Asthma UK - several sites all saying the same thing - then she say that is not right

not a very caring attitude
Final straw was my wife's last consultation where. There is a new thing on the web site where your consultations can be seen (only by you - clearly) - what she had written was totally different to what my wife was complaining about - and made her look like she was just moaning - which was not true at all
Looks like she had not listened and just assumed - which is just wrong

Anyway - we have found a multi GP place just down the road that seems to have far more facilities so we will try there!
