Bonnie is about to be shampoo'd.. I love the smell of wet dog in evening 🐶 👌

When I had my Alsatian (GSD in metric) washing the dog was a major activity

she spent most of her time outdoors so her coat was VERY thick and the inner coat was like a sort of waterproof sponge covered in a light grease

when she needed a wash (only in summer) she was NOT HAPPY at the idea
and the shampoo took away the grease on the inner coat (which made it waterproof) and left a huge dog shaped sponge covered in soap and desperately wanting to get out of the bath

I generally dried her with 4 big towels - all got soaked - and then left her to dry in the sun outside

if she was covered in mud (often "smelly mud" if you see what I mean) then I just used the hosepipe
the inner coat was waterproof so there was not the same problem and she would dry quickly

but a full bath resulted in a wet dog for many hours

and a wet carpet all over the house once I got her back in the house in the evening!!

(her ideal was for me to be in my chair in the longe and her to be outside in the garden
with the patio door wide open
she did not approve of my concept that leaving the door open all evening and the heating on once it got colder was not ideal!!!)

Dry here just now but very humid, so much so that I let the hairdresser do my hair with a number 8 guard clipper all over. It feels lighter and cooler.

I will no doubt spend the evening watching stuff on catch up or Netflix.

How about watching the Criterium du Dauphine on ITV4 at 6.00 pm tonight ?
It is a mountain top finish today.

I'm 2 days behind - there is a spoiler thread somewhere on here!

The forecast rain did not arrive. Hurrah. The neighbour's gutter and down spout flow freely. The spout was almost solid with rotting leaves. A full afternoon on the allotment with all growing beds weeded and hoed, tomatoes trimmed and tied, ditto cucumber, grass cut and general tidying. Very productive. I have four baby cucumbers 🥒 The first time I've tried growing these, I need to find out what happens next.

My phone battery lost 40% in two hours. It's been iffy for a while. A full factory reset should fix it. The question is can I be arsed this evening?

My new broom has broken. The plastic thing the handle screws into. I'm truly pissed off with this. A metal one would be far better. Google here I come.

Fortunately, Bonnie is a Bischon Frise 😂
Our previous dog, Roxy, was a Rott, Doberman Alsatian cross and got hosed down in the garden on a warm day so she'd dry more easily.

A pleasant day. Took the granddaughter down to Poole Quay for " Harry Paye Day ". The Pirates Parade was excellent, even a large group of Pirates on Harleys and other exotic mounts. Granddaughter got offered a golden coin by one fearsome looking chap, when she accepted it he said she was now a member of his crew and should report back at 5 o'clock ready to board 🤣🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
Plenty of stalls, live music and a genuinely lovely atmosphere.

Our Millie is a medium coated Collie, she gets washed down out in the garden on a warm day in spring, and again at the end of summer, rinsed down with a bucket of warm water.
After a good shake and a towel down she is normally ready to come back into the kitchen.

In other news our neighbours brought us back a box of " proper " Turkish Delight from their holiday in Turkey. Goodness me it's nice, not at all like the stuff that I have previously tasted. That got me digging into the subject and reading about how the proper stuff is made. It is available online in the UK, and about £14 for a box of the authentic hand made stuff.
