Can't do a debate here, obviously, but I honestly can't see any downside to having one.

As someone who has initiated legal proceedings against the DWP for negligently informing my ex wife who I haven't even seen in 20 years of my exact income, I can very well see the downside of the government unnecessarily processing my data. They simply cannot be trusted with it.

AndnI Iay that not through any intent at political discussion, but as someone who faced the upset and embarrassment of a government departments incompetence with their handling of my data. Its not nice.

The good news is my solicitor reckons I'll be in for a nice payout and the DWP will receive a pleasant anal invading from the ICO.

Morning!

Looks like I am out on a limb here amongst you grumpy retirees!

I quite like the notion of a national ID card.

Would've come in handy when we were setting up our VW Connect App a couple of years ago.

And, more recently, for my daughter starting a new job a year ago and currently obtaining a new mortgage. Both entailed irritating, and time consuming, POI checks as she has neither passport or driving licence.

You might not be able to but I read the start of an article in the Daily Fail that was trying to

as long as it is done properly then it might help a lot of people - some older people have problem proving their ID because they no longer have a passport or driving license (or smart phone!!!)
but if it is well thought out and the "outliers" are considered then it might help

the concept of being stopped in the street and have to show you ID is not at all in the plans
but "some papers" seem to be implying that (but not actually saying it)

And the ignorant cat, what'll it be doing?

Don't know, it doesn't tell me!
TBH (if I'm the only human here) if it wants to go out it sits by the conservatory door until I open it.
When it decides its ready to come in it sits looking through my patio doors until I open the conservatory door for it. It then walks past me without a look or a single meow.....totally ignorant.

Interesting.
I was just looking at my passport. Just 1 year left on it. Doubt it will ever go abroad again.
Is it worth the hassle to renew it!!!

..........yet.....

The annual battle begins with the falling leaves. :cursing:

Yup - we have trees at the bottom of the garden and I expect to have the back lawn covered in a week or so

which is why I have invested in a new garden vac thing
the old one works fine but the leaves just end up back on the lawn since some mice got at the bag over winter a few years ago

and buying a replacement bag costs nearly as much as a new vac!!

Could you all please stop this talk of ID cards, it's very bad for my blood pressure. I don't come on here to get angry.

Just wait until they award the contract to Fujitsu. You'll probably explode!

I can recommend the Daily Mail web site for that!

Their sitemjs almost unusable with all the ads and pop-ups. Its a good thing they have nothing worth reading.

Just got a message from Santander

they have - for my convenience - switched me to an account with no "rewards"

which I knew about
what I didn;t know if that this will require a new card and PIN
but it is OK because they are sending it to me - if I have not already got it, which I haven't

problem is that I will be abroad for over a week

so I went onto their website and found the "Chat" option (which annoys me - it isn;t a chat - it is me asking a question and hopefully them giving an answer!)

anyway - I typed in my question
and it worked out that I am asking about switching my account
I'm not - they have done it
so give me 5-6 options for questions about how to do it
and no "none of the above option"

so I got fed up quite quickly and just copied my original question and pasted it in every time they asked for a response
eventually it gave up and said it was "passing my query onto a colleague"

who will reply some time later

so the chat is not even a chat - it is a computer system trying to get away wil delivered stock answers to simple question
and then a too small group of humans that can type in answers if you persist
at some point in the future

I presume it is using AI - and the I bit of that needs some work!!
