Earlier I mentioned the everest climber who is still alive and still climbs.
I've had to google it but details are........
:-Expedition was in the 70s
Name :- Paul Boysen
Age :- 84
Apparently he still climbs twice a week.
Chris Bonnington who led the expedition is 91 and "still active".

I thought his name was Cliff....

Just been thinking

went for a ride yesterday - my normal loop that I have done many times

now in summer most of it dries out - this summer the main canal section was continually dry for longer than I ever remember
normally there are small puddles all along the main unpaved tow path

plus there is a bit on the cut through to Warrington that is under thick trees cover and in a bit of a dip
and that is just never dry
even this summer it was still damp and muddy in places

I expected that by now the normal winter puddles would be back
and the bit on the cut through would be back to impassable and the side path would be needed

but the puddle were just not there
and the bit on the cutthrough was just muddy - I managed to ride through it with no problem
which never happens except in the middle of summer

so - it appears to me that the underlying ground around here is still pretty dry

which is not a good sign for farming and all that

I try to avoid that if at all possible.
