Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I just received a message from someone saying that I owe money to them. Its for parking fines and they sent me a link for me to pay. That's very decent and helpful of them.

I got an email the other day as well saying that a I had authorised a payment from my Google wallet for something.

I am afraid I must decline payment to them, but nice try though

The nasty thing is though that they will yarget some old person who will panic and click on the links to pay these scumbags . I wish I could get hold of them

I had an email and invoice the other week for items paid for from my PayPal account, and a link to report it.
There of course was no such transaction, but some people might get taken in.

In my u3a we run a Digital Skills group which focuses on helping older people with day to day tech issues. I help out with the group. One thing we repeatedly discuss is online security and how to recognise scam links.

If anyone knows of individuals who might want telephone support or even a home visit this charity is brilliant. In my experience they deliver everything it says on the tin.

As I have mentioned - I do something similar via AgeUK
It would be good if organisations like these co-operated and made an effort to make sure that the message that "help is out there" is put out

but I have been pushing for a decent "marketing" effort to go out for some time

I think I am starting to get through, but it has taken a while
trying to get people to talk to other organisation doing a similar thing is probably about as easy as persuading trump to have a sensible chat with Eddie Izzard (sorry if they have a different name now!)

but if they could all co-operate then they could sort out a decent coverage and make sure more people are helped

I quite agree. I approached Age UK, and several other organisations, locally to see what help and assistance is available. No one could help us, the majority were volunteer organisations that folded during Covid, and our local Age UK withdrew the service as a cost cutting exercise.

AbilityNet are the only people we've found who can offer assistance. We've had two well attended sessions with them. The presenters were amazing at putting people at ease. Lots of two way discussion took place and barriers broken down for many.

Our next two sessions will be hands-on clinics with members bringing their device(s) for one-to-one help. We will four helpers. After this direct help of this type from AbilityNet finishes. I plan to run bi-monthly drop in sessions for face to face stuff with me.

AbilityNet will be available for home and telephone support. The biggest breakthrough has been knocking down barriers and building confidence.

Just for information

if anyone needs IT help then, if you are over 55, you should be able to get help from AgeUK
just mention the "digital Champion" scheme
they also have a lend scheme for phone and tablet for people who cannot get one for themselves

Clearly - fell free to pass this around t anyone who might need it
it is supposed to be country wide

if you get a "we don;t do that" response - please let me know and I can pass it onto my lot
(I am not called her a boss - she doesn;t pay me!!!)

If anyone else knows of organisation that do something similar then let me know and I may be able to kick people into some sort of co-operation in order to help people
(maybe!!)

I know there is a help system in libraries in the Liverpool City Region
I used to volunteer for them - but the marketing was as bad as this place

I am just worried that if I push too much I may be suggested as a volunteer marketing person!!!!

Money, money, money...

Generally, a spendy day here:

£144 to fix boiler - previous alleged 'heating engineer' had cocked-up new pump install. Thought it was going to cost more to rectify.

£180 to clear silted-up pond. Well worth it!

Other monetary matters:

£200 WFP letter received - will fund the big tax rise day on the 26th of this month! Hopefully!

An FRB has matured overnight with a decent amount of interest on maturity, albeit the interest will incur a tax liability.

Mrs SD informs me that we spent £720 on car fuel last year and are already at £980 this year with two months to go. Due to numerous hospital visits.

What a state the country is in and prices for everything are still rising at an alarming rate.

Good afternoon,

Starting my third try at retirement today.

The last two times were great for a while but I drifted into a regime of get up, ride, run or gym then off to t'pub by 12:00

The first time I met a wonderful woman who offered me an iron the first time that I meet her in a pub. I didn't understand the offer until it was explained to me that she was a shop lifter and it was an iron.

Next time I moved to a Wetherspoons and met another wonderful woman who explained to me how unfair it was that her son was in prison, all he had done was melt down some road signs and sell the metal.

So I am really looking forward to the next encounter

I am not sure that this time is going to be any better though, my leaving gift was a subscription to a whisky club, semi cask strength 52.5%.

Not a whisky drinker personally, but, I suspect there will be more than one on here who could help you with that, thus keeping your intake down 😂

I am gutted......... I thought that you were about to recommend a carbon fibre bottle cage that would accept this oversized bidon. :-(
