It’s dismal and drizzly here now. I might be tempted to go for an afternoon siesta.

My son text me earlier today the £50 Trek hybrid he bought at university as a runaround was stolen today, they took a bolt cutter to the weedy lock he used, I did tell him to invest in a decent D lock.

Fortunately I volunteer at a bike charity where we have a pile of crappy bikes, so tomorrow I’ll try and source him a replacement.

There's a fair bit of "padding" round that cable.

Tell him, if he gets another combination lock, not to use the same combination.

You can't trust university students these days
 
If he wants a combination lock
tell him to test it by pulling it and then moving the numbers - on the rubbish ones you can feel the one that is correct
it will be on one of the ends and can be quite easy to feel

the better ones don;t give that feeling

but it would still take longer to crack it than using bolt cutters!
