Good morning from a sunny Dorset. Heating is still on though I have noticed the amount of lecktrickety it's using has dropped right down. I borrowed an audio book from the library, " Project Hail Mary " by Andy Weir ". I have read the book but the narration really brings it to life in a way that reading it " in your head " doesn't. Only problem is that it's about 18 hours long and I need to return it soon. Last night I was listening in bed and woke this morning with no clue how far I had got, and an airpod sticking in my back🤔. I will persevere as it's such a good listen.
Morning all. A really filthy day ahead (weatherwise).
Last night/evening I binge watched some DVDs. They were all things that Sue and I enjoyed together but I've not been able to watch since.

3. Les Mis 10th anniversary.

Daughter when much younger really liked the " arithmetics ". It stuck and we still call them that now 😁

Looking out the widow its actually quite a nice day but go outside a different matter. Really cold and really windy.
Plan so far today is collect(and pay bill) for daughters car from garage.
Fix curtain rail in lounge which has come adrift.
Take my car for new tyres(££££)
Get some exercise, probably weights.
First, coffee.

On a similar note we fostered/looked after a 3 year old boy for 6 months when his mum had a breakdown. He liked bananas but could only call them balanas......so, ever since, that's what we called them.

A lot, truly a lot. One of the great difficulties in relation to this is people only see the "bad" stuff. Our roads are in an appalling state and this is what people notice, quite understandably. What many fail to do, and I guess one needs a reason to want to do this, is to understand the breakdown of council tax and in particular the services that a local authority has a statutory obligation to deliver.
My interest comes from the fact my son is Downs and Lancashire CC has a statutory obligation to provide his care. The financial implications are significant to both the LA and the individual. I will leave it there unless anyone wants the full version. A friend of mine once described me, jokingly, as to the left of Lenin.............possibly that brings me round to the right?? (This is a JOKE - mods). Since 2000 central government (Labour and Tory) funding to local authorities has reduced by at least 60p in the £1 at the same time council tax increases are capped at 5%. I feel the problem is obvious. In sufficient funding to provide services
To fulfil it's statutory obligations the LA has to find cost savings. The longterm consequence of this is everything gets cut. Those unable to support themselves, my son, are expected to contribute to their care. My lad lives on benefits yet has to pay Lancashire CC £500 per month towards the care LCC has a statutory obligation to provide. This was introduced by Blair/Brown, just to demonstrate I'll kick red and blue.
The situation we have now is once the LA has cut everything to the bone there is little more to do other than to introduce charges for waste collection, close libraries, shut down leisure centres, etc Roads are sh1t because there is no money to pay for their repair. I Lancashire some 20% of our roads are forecast to reach "end of life" in 15 years!
The electorate/populace chooses to vote for a low tax economy. The end result is roads that are falling apart, and that sadly is all people see.

On a similar theme. When my brother was young he called onions yun yuns.
Well, the weather surprised me. Rather than the sleety showers that were forecast, I got a walk done while it was dry and sunny. The wind is to pick up though so it might blow some showers over at some point.

Looks like the AgeUK client has cancelled - well one has - so one left at 12
weather is carp - very windy and rain was lashing against the windows a few minutes ago
and SWMBO has orderd a "drain snake" so I reckon I will be checking the shower drain this afternoon - oH Joys!!
it has got slower and slower over the last few months - the installer did say it was a bit closer to the horizontal that he would have liked
might as well do the bath while I am at it!!
funny how that tends to me a "man's job" in most families!!!
(in my case - like cooking, cleaning (mostly), mopping, mowing,cleaning the bike, hoovering etc - I just look for jobs to do when I get bored

MorningMy shower drain pipe is also too close to horizontal..... no choice really. My cleaner has taken that job as part of her "duty" when she cleans the shower cubicle, which she does admirably every week .

My lad as a youngster, 5 or 6yrs old couldn't say certificate, so he called them ferlickulates. We still call them that 38 years later.
